Jersey Shore Merman, #1
Source: Library’s Libby (I also received a copy of an e-ARC from Netgalley. This did nothing to influence my review.)
Content Warning: Sexual Content, Alcohol, Gun Violence
For Readers of: Adult, Audio, Catchy Title, Contemporary, Fantasy (Merman), Sparkly Covers, Summer LovinGYM. TAN. MERMAN. Welcome to the Jersey Shore, where the men are hot, the sun is sizzling, and the boardwalk’s seen it all…until now.
After years of living on the Shore, Hannah Bell is sure two things are
The family B&B is her future. Men like Xander—mysterious, charming, and un-freaking-believably gorgeous—do not just wash up like some kind of sexy flotsam. But when Xander appears mostly-naked and half-conscious in the surf, Hannah does what any sane, kind-hearted woman would hauls him into her bed. Her bed and breakfast, that is. It’s only polite. But her one act of seaside charity goes sideways fast when her new perennially topless “guest” starts fixing leaky faucets with a wink, charming her with fishy dad jokes, and casually revealing that—oh yeah—he’s a freakin’ merman.
Not only that, but he’s the merman who rescued her a decade ago and then ghosted her like an enchanted Tinder date gone wrong. Rude.
As Hannah reels from revelations and Xander tries to stay one step ahead of the secrets lurking beneath the tide, they’ll need to figure out if their surfside chemistry is just a summer fling… or the start of something truly fin-tastic.
*MY THOUGHTS*
This was purely a Catchy title and cover read lol I had no idea what it was about besides the obvious, so this was interesting, but it was still good lol I’m glad I randomly checked it out lol
The writing style was easy to follow and also very cute. There were a few things where I was like girl what? But only because the humor was a bit different than I’m used to. I side eyed them almost the whole book because of that lol It was weird, but it was a cute weird.
The characters were what made this book for me tho. I had so much fun with them.I loved Hannah. Because the girl was smart. She owned her own business and she didn’t turn the merman away, AND she was a Philadelphia Eagles fan too lol As for Xander, he was hilarious. He reminded me of Ariel and her first time on land. I was waiting on the author to throw in a dinglehopper reference lol (I won’t tell you if I got it or not LOL) This was cute tho. It was like a gender bent Little Mermaid. A lot was different, but I couldn’t stop thinking of that story because of the merman.
The folklore was actually really good in this too. He changed when wet and dry. He had a necklace that helped with the spells he had cast, and he was also being chased. But it was different because of where? I don’t think I’ve ever read any mermaid book like that. I don’t want to say what because of spoilers, but it was still interesting to me. I do wish we could have gotten some more backstory, but eh it was still good.
This was cute, but I’m not sure I would have read the next one without the bombshell ending of this one. I’ll just say this chick is brave af lol Ain’t no way! So yeah, I will be reading the next one because I need to know that there’s more out there and I need to know about their life “now.” This is going to be interesting I’m sure lol
Overall, I give this
