These themes will vary! It could be based off of some book mail I just received, pop culture, something personal to me, a headline from the news, a trend I noticed when I was buying books for my library system, etc. I hope you stick around to see all the themes and book recs I come up with!
Today’s Theme: Storm Chasers
As someone who lives in a place where hurricanes hit on the regular, I am terrified of natural disasters. Every year I end up stacking PTO and keeping one eye on the news and one eye on everything else going on around me. After having lived and lost homes and things through multiple storms, I realized that I can actually stomach these storms as long as they’re fiction. So when I saw that there were these two Storm Chasers type books, I knew I had to read them. This one is definitely a bookish version of Twister. They were chasing storms all across Tornado Alley. They watched the clouds and the weather situation and fell in love along the way. Everything was realistic, including the way they mentioned the importance of being safe, the pictures that she was taking, and the science involved. And the Twister references were pretty cool too. [This is Adult and is out now!]
This book was….. Different. The science is heavy in this. All she talks about is watching the clouds and storm chasing. But as a weather influencer I expected nothing less.. But this one is a bit different than the other book because they are hurricane hunters. In this one they go all around Florida to watch as storms roll in. They also talk with National Hurricane Center and other national hurricane tv networks. There is even a mention of Jim Cantore and unfortunately, IYKYK. Can’t have a hurricane book without him. And again, they’re doing this all the while falling in love. Again, as someone who has lived through hurricanes, I spent a good time saying, “WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?” and had to remind myslef that this was a book and they were weather influencers and a meteorologist. I didn’t agree with a lot of things they did, but seeing women in STEM through this made me happy. [This is Adult and is out now!]

More Books on Natural Disasters!
Natural Disasters Scare me because of the way they’re so unpredictable. You can be as prepared as possible, but there’s still the chance of the unexpected. Anything might happen and having no control freaks me out. So here’s some more books on natural disasters if you’re interested or want to make a display. Earthquakes are missing, but you can add those too. On this graphic, there is one MG novel for dust storms, and one Adult book for hurricanes. (The wildfire book is not meant to be callous and was not made with the current one in mind. It was made weeks ago when I was scheduling these)
These books are all about hurricanes. I made this graphic because it is actually hurricane season right now.** And like I said I always read them to feel better about what’s happening and sometimes to scream at them for doing things I know that I wouldn’t. But no matter which one, they help me a lot knowing that I can close it if it gets to be too much and I can go back when I’m ready. **This was scheduled to send weeks ago. This has nothing to do with the storm that is currently in the Gulf of MEXICO right now.**
