These themes will vary! It could be based off of some book mail I just received, pop culture, something personal to me, a headline from the news, a trend I noticed when I was buying books for my library system, etc. I hope you stick around to see all the themes and book recs I come up with!
Today’s Theme: Knot Your Average Weddings
So two things I will always read about are weddings and funerals. Every single time the characters are taking such care to make sure that they are throwing the perfect party…. But they never turn up that way. There’s always something happening to someone somewhere. And even tho that’s not what happened in this one, this wedding was still messy af lol Isabella went to her cousin’s wedding, but she didn’t realize all the things that came with that… From rooming with a former friend who once ruined her Quincéñera, to unraveling an entire family secret with that same person…. All to find out that someone is also trying to sabotage the wedding AND THEN FALL FOR HER ANYWAYS. When I tell you this wedding stressed even me out LOL And all of this and Isabella wasn’t even the one getting married LOL I’m telling you this book was a hot mess. [This is Adult and is out now!]
This one was messy for a whole different reason. In Harlem, we have Yolande Du Bois who is getting married to Countee Cullen. Unfortunately, she’s not living truthfully. She’s actually in love with someone else. And come to find out, that person is in love with her too. You can just imagine what that means for her wedding day to Countee. Unbeknownst to her, he also had something else he was going through too. This whole wedding was a sham and was done to keep secrets and fool people. I kept thinking of that one scene from A Different World. I swear I turned into that Michael Jackson meme eating the popcorn. I can’t imagine someone who was “in the know” watching this in real time lol [This is Adult and is out now!]

More Messy Ass Weddings!
Here’s a couple more weddings that were messy af in some of my recent reads.(One of them I read a long time ago!) In The Shippers, the bride faints at the altar, in The Wedding Crasher a wedding is stopped and then fake dating between the groom and crasher begins, In Student Union they marry each other after one is being put out of her dorm, so marriage of convenience and it was between her and someone she couldn’t stand, and lastly, in Our Perfect Storm, someone is left before they even get to the altar. There’s so many more I could have added to this list, (like The Red Wedding………) but I’ll leave that for if and when I actually read it and not just watch it LOL
