These themes will vary! It could be based off of some book mail I just received, pop culture, something personal to me, a headline from the news, a trend I noticed when I was buying books for my library system, etc. I hope you stick around to see all the themes and book recs I come up with!

Today’s Theme: Novels in Verse
Since April is National Poetry Month I wanted to shine some light on some of them. I’m not usually a fan of novels in verse*, but I AM a fan of books with rep I haven’t read in a long while or if its one of my favorite genres. And that’s exactly what both of these are today! In An Expanse of Blue, there’s Native Hawaiian rep. And it has a comp to The Poet X as there’s also family that’s going through some things. I haven’t read Native Hawaiian rep in YA, so this is coming at THE BEST time! And it’s coming out next month during AANHPI month! And this cover? Please, give it to me now! I need it! I can’t wait to get this in my hands! [This one is YA and is out 5/19/26]
This is another one that has me hella excited and counting down the days. But this one has me so excited. First of all it’s set in Texas and it’s cheerleaders. And if you know anything about Texas, cheerleaders and football, you know this is going to be good. AND its horror?! Yaaassssss! I can’t wait! And this one has a comp to Tiffany D. Jackson, so I’m hella excited about this one too! There’s a demon doe that’s going to help the MC win her battle with Genevieve. But this is a demon we’re talking about, so anything goes….. [This one is YA and is out 6/23/26]
*I’m not a huge fan of novels in verse only because I usually read them too fast and don’t absorb them like I should. I usually try to listen to them and read them in tandem so that I can make myself slow down and pay more attention since I’m looking at the words and listening along.
Well, there you go! Here I’m just going to talk about why I grouped these two books together. I hope you enjoyed a look at this small part of the books. For a full synopsis of the book or to add it to your TBR, click the picture and it will take you to their Storygraph. The link on the caption will take you to it’s Goodreads.
Forthcoming Novels in Verse I Can’t Wait For!

All of these are on different things and some are out soon and some in Fall. But all of them seem amazing! I was talking to someone at Penguin Teen about Eva to the Max and they mentioned the different shapes the poems are in and I flipped through Shook and saw that there was not only sports but also anxiety rep and sports injury rep and more. All of these books have something that I’m hella excited for! I can’t wait to get my hands on them!

What about you? Do you like novels in verse? What was the last one you read? Let me know in the comments!
