In this prequel to #1 New York Times bestselling phenomenon They Both Die at the End, two new strangers spend a life-changing day together after Death-Cast first makes their fateful calls.
It’s the night before Death-Cast goes live, and there’s one question on everyone’s mind: Can Death-Cast actually predict when someone will die, or is it just an elaborate hoax?
Orion Pagan has waited years for someone to tell him that he’s going to die. He has a serious heart condition, and he signed up for Death-Cast so he could know what’s coming.
Valentino Prince is restarting his life in New York. He has a long and promising future ahead and he only registered for Death-Cast after his twin sister nearly died in a car accident.
Orion and Valentino cross paths in Times Square and immediately feel a deep connection. But when the first round of End Day calls goes out, their lives are changed forever—one of them receives a call, and the other doesn’t. Though neither boy is certain how the day will end, they know they want to spend it together…even if that means their goodbye will be heartbreaking.
Told with acclaimed author Adam Silvera’s signature bittersweet touch, this story celebrates the lasting impact that people have on each other and proves that life is always worth living to the fullest.

*MY THOUGHTS*

HOW DARE YOU, ADAM SILVERA?! I really need to start reading the synopsis of books when I add them to my TBR. For the most part I always just add it if I know that I liked the author’s previous books. And this is one of those times lol Because I was BOO-HOOING from more than just “the first to die at the end.”

Death-Cast is brand new and no one really believers that they can actually predict someone’s death. So when the first few calls are made, no one knows if they want to believe it or not…. So the ones that have been called try living out their last day to the fullest, while also having that small niggling feeling in the back of their mind. Will this day turn into their last day or will it turn out that this is all just a big hoax?

Ok so I liked this, BUT I still think some things are unanswered. Like I still don’t know the HOW? HOW did he start getting all these predictions? HOW did he decide to test out the theory that it might just work out? Like maybe no one else cares, but man I do. This is going to bother me for a long while lol I’m almost positive I didn’t miss the explanation by listening to the audio on 2.0 speed, so I went and looked through the hardcover. I didn’t find it, so if you know, please tell me because this is making me crazy.

This one is also a tear-jerker. I went in knowing I was going to cry, but man this one was something else. My eyes were red rimmed and puffy by the time I was done listening. I was super glad I was working from home this time and not in my office like the other one. But I wasn’t crying just because the obvious…. I was also crying because the romance was so sudden and so sweet. And because of some of the other characters that were there. I was a hot mess lol

Speaking of characters, I loved ALL of them! I was mad at Orion’s sister for a little, but I also knew where she was coming from. The whole situation was terrible and I couldn’t really fault them for wanting that. But this of course made me love Orion more because he was the one with the most to gain and still did his best to take care of him. To make sure he was comfortable and doing ok. (Another reason I was boo-hoo crying lol) And man, the other best man of all was Valentino. Him doing what he did was the sweetest thing ever. OMG as soon as he made the declaration I was in tears. (Yes AGAIN) And I felt so sad about Scarlet. Just ugh. HOW DARE YOU ADAM!

Another thing I loved was the different point of views. Not only are they from different people that are prominent in story, but also there’s also others who are around the story. Like the landlord, the landlord’s wife, Mateo and Rufus………………. YES, WHEN I SAW THEM I CRIED AGAIN lol And it was full cast (or at least had 3 different narrators) so it made it even more enjoyable.

The narrators were amazing. That’s not even a question. I really just want to know how they were able to get through this book without breaking down. It seemed that Adam was going for the most sad thing possible, so I don’t know how they made it. I DO know that me listening to this was the bad idea lol Because I think listening to them as people who were like actually having a conversation near me that I could overhear was the reason this affected me so. I remember listening to the first one also, but I’m not sure why that one didn’t hurt me like this one did.

I knew this wasn’t going to be something easy to get through. It was such a bittersweet emotional roller coaster. I’m definitely going to bill Silvera for my therapy. This book was my favorite out of the two, but it still left me with some unanswered questions. I hope we get another novella that tells us a little more soon.

Overall, I give this
