Dahye can’t believe her luck when she finds herself in a whirlwind romance with handsome, charismatic Hyukjoon, the heir to a multi-million dollar fortune.
But then a shocking revelation threatens: the couple has been caught on a spycam amid Korea’s growing molka epidemic, and the video is all over the internet. When Hyukjoon flees the country to avoid the intense public scrutiny, Dahye is left to grapple with the ramifications on her own; and the demons from her childhood, long dormant, begin to surface.
Amid the chaos, she catches the attention of Junyoung, a nerdy, introverted IT tech at work. Junyoung harbours a dark secret: he has been spying on the women at work with his own hidden cameras. As Dahye’s life begins to unravel, she unknowingly becomes the sole target of Junyoung’s perverse obsession.
When the facts surrounding the invasion of her privacy come to light, Dahye is faced with the humiliating truth. Her pain and hurt turn to rage as she faces her past. Her desire for vengeance is insatiable, and she will not rest until the men who have wronged her have paid in blood…
*MY THOUGHTS*
This was bananas! I thought the other novel by Kim was crazy, but this one was wayyyyy out there. And just like the other, I also enjoyed it lol
Ok so this one isn’t going to be for everyone. Literally every person in this book gave me a stomach ache. I binge read this basically over night because I didn’t want to spend that much time on it. The assault is damn near constant, so I don’t blame you or anyone else if they had to nope out. As for me, if you don’t know, body horror is literally the only trope that makes me feel uncomfortable. I guess because when I read I picture those things happening to me or me doing it. And this is one book I did not want to be in at all. And just a heads up, you’re in the mind of the person who did the assault sometimes too. That’s the part that gave me a stomach ache. I felt so gross.
It wasn’t scary like jump scare wise since it was mostly body horror and feminist horror, but the things that was happening would definitely make you uncomfortable, so it served it’s purpose. And when that other thing showed up, it was creepy too. I did wish there was some more description of her besides, shadow and wet, but eh I get it. The more weird and unknown the more creepy, so I’ll allow it. But it didn’t really seem scary? It was mostly creepy. I had to keep reminding myself that the object of body horror is to make you feel uncomfortable. But I will admit I wanted more scary than anything.
The thing that I didn’t like (besides the obvious) was the pacing. It was ok for the first part, then it got to be a bit boring in the middle, and then there was a big event in the end, and then bam it was over. The ending was so abrupt and didn’t really make sense to me. There’s a thing that happens and I remember reading it at like 8 something in the morning, but with the amount of trauma and crazy in this book, it hardly phased me. (And let’s be honest, this character deserved it!)
Not gonna lie, this is a hard book to get through. I don’t think I could have done any research on molka by myself. Kim gave the info in such a way that made me uncomfortable, but I was still able to watch them get theirs in the end. Whereas I don’t think that’s what was happening IRL. I hope at least that part heals something for someone.
Overall, I give this
