It’s Christmas Eve! Which means, Christmas Reads!

I realized that not only am I a mood reader, I’m also a seasonal reader. When it’s Christmas, I want to read Christmas books. But stuff like when it’s cold and people want to read winter books doesn’t really do it for me. But the holidays? Idk what it is, but I’m addicted.

I said all of that to say I’m a HUGE seasonal reader, but only when it comes to the holidays. Not so much the weather or season like summer/winter/ etc. For me, seasonal reading looks like choosing a book because it’s Christmas time. Or because Thanksgiving is here. And I don’t mean like it’s almost Thanksgiving so I’m going to read this book set in the fall. I mean I want a book that has the main character celebrating the same holiday. It just fully puts me in the holiday spirit. My mom was really big at celebrating ALL holidays, so growing up they were really important to me. I mean she even had decorations for Labor Day and we decorated a small potted palm tree for Christmas one year. I love holidays and reading about them just puts me in the spirit.

Like I said earlier, the season and genre don’t actually correlate to me. I can read a scary book in the summer and a Beach Read in January if I wanted. I think that’s because where I stay the weather is only always hot lol #southerngirlproblems But I think that makes it even more impressive or cool when I see a book that has incorporated a holiday in a non-traditional way. For instance, as a southerner, I LOVED seeing Christmas set next to a lake where people were sweating, and running outside in flip flops, etc. Because that’s what MY Christmas looks like. I do wish there was more Christmas references tho. There’s some talk about stockings, and the food they eat at the time, but I think it would have been cool to add a bit more Christmas. Just to give us southerners the taste of a hot Christmas we’re not used to seeing lol (But I get that it was not a Christmas book so there wasn’t a need to go into a lot of detail, but I can’t lie and say I didn’t want it lol)

I’ve also seen some people say they like to read certain genres during certain seasons. Like they read fantasy in the winter? I don’t put too much stock in that one. Only because I don’t see why that’s a thing? Like I honestly don’t see what the correlation between winter and fantasy is? Is it like the George Martin thing, Winter is coming? But that’s fandom based. Idk, that one doesn’t work for me. But if you like it and it makes sense to you, I’m glad you have that!

So, what do you think? And while you’re thinking, enjoy this picture of the Christmas reads I’ve read or plan to read this year! Hopefully it will help you make your TBR!

Are you a seasonal reader? Do you read for the holidays? The seasons? Based on genre? Let me know in the comments!
