*MY THOUGHTS*
I knew this was going to be a gamble going into it, but still, I tried it anyways because I liked the other book about tornadoes. But as it turns out, this held more merit to me because I’m from somewhere that gets them all the time ,bur still.
Ok so what I DID like about this was the influencer thing. I know this isn’t a popular opinion, but I enjoy when social media is in books or are influencers. It’s something that we all know about and can identify with in some ways. As someone who loves contemporary romance, some kind of social media in books is a must. Even if its a made up one, it has to be there. And I can say without a doubt I haven’t read a book about a weather influencer before lol
The romance was cute. It was a bit of a twist of a trope, best friend’s brother. There was no infantilizing because her friend didn’t know about them and he had actually been pining for her for a long time. I thought they were pretty cute. And the way he respected her and didn’t let anyone else disrespect her too. But I did think it was a little weird tho. He never said anything about the random people who joined her lives just because he was there. in fact, they both liked it. It was kind of weird to me. But when they got together, it was cute. They were pretty hot together too. There weren’t any scenes that stuck out, but I thought it was cute anyways.
Now for what I didn’t like……. This whole Category 5 hurricane thing. I will admit this is very well researched for how hurricanes have formed and how they get stronger, but as far as living through one…. Has the author been through one before? Because….. First of all, there hasn’t been a Category 5 that’s hit land since 2018, Hurricane Michael. It hit Florida, and aerial views of the destruction were so sad. This thing had 160 mph winds. It picked up houses and flooded streets. It was bad. And you expect me to believe that an influencer with no health insurance went down to this place where a Cat 5 was coming to risk it all and she was perfectly fine? You expected me to believe they just survived in a parking garage and a hotel? And like, the whole staying behind while there was a duck family to save? Ma’am even if there was a ducky family that made it through this, they were not making it through this storm. In fact, both of you were getting ready to be swept up and away. It might seem small, but to someone who lives through them and has lived and lost through some of the worst from Texas, this was just plain unbearable.
This just didn’t work for me. There were some good parts, but I just couldn’t stop thinking about that whole hurricane debacle, But it was ok if you’re not going in thinking of that. It was different for me because I know how the wind whips around your house in just 60 mph winds. I can’t imagine 160! She was trippin. But whatever, I’ll let her make it.
Overall, I give this
