This was a wild ass book lol I’m not gonna lie… I requested it solely because it was a Hansel and Gretel retelling. I had no idea how Lovise was going to pull this off (I don’t read synopsis lol) so I really was just here for the ride. And enjoy the ride I did lol
If you think this is your typical cute re-telling, you are mistaken. This was a horrifying, stress filled time that I wasn’t exactly ready for lol The plot is true to the original: The mom goes missing, the dad remarries, the stepmom lets them out into the forest where they try to find their way back with food pieces. They instead come up on a house made of candy! But let me tell you, their journey is way worse than that lol Their journey was HELL! I obviously won’t say more, but please know this was crazy and creepy and weird. It gets dark quick. And yes, there is actually a witch
The one thing that pissed me off was the romance. Yes I know it’s nothing new and it’s in all YA books, but Lordt, who tf cares about romance at a time like this? LMFAO we are lost in the forest and all this weird shit is happening to us. Whyyyy are we thinking about how hot this person is and we just met them? We can see they’re attractive, but do we have tp act on it now? Can we survive first? lol
I don’t want to say more because I feel like the plot being a re-telling is already a spoiler lol So y’all pick this up. I need to talk to someone about this plot twist. Because this is one of those ones where I was sitting there with my mouth open. And no I will not be elaborating. Unless you’ve read it. So do that and let me know what you think!
