For Readers Interested In: Paranormal, Witches, Romance, LGBTQ+, Magic, AdultPractical Magic meets Gilmore Girls in this adorable witchy rom-com with:
• A bisexual virgin baker with a curse
• A witch looking to avoid romantic entanglements
• And a chemistry between them that causes literal sparks
Danica Waterhouse is a fully modern witch—daughter, granddaughter, cousin, and co-owner of the Fix-It Witches, a magical tech repair shop. After a messy breakup that included way too much family “feedback,” Danica made a pact with her cousin: they’ll keep their hearts protected and have fun, without involving any of the overly opinionated Waterhouse matriarchs. Danica is more than a little exhausted navigating a long-standing family feud where Gram thinks the only good mundane is a dead one and Danica’s mother weaves floral crowns for anyone who crosses her path.
Three blocks down from the Fix-It Witches, Titus Winnaker, owner of Sugar Daddy’s bakery, has family trouble of his own. After a tragic loss, all he’s got left is his sister, the bakery, and a lifetime of terrible luck in love. Sure, business is sweet, but he can’t seem to shake the romantic curse that’s left him past thirty and still a virgin. He’s decided he’s doomed to be forever alone.
Until he meets Danica Waterhouse. The sparks are instant, their attraction irresistible. For him, she’s the one. To her, he’s a firebomb thrown in the middle of a family war. Can a modern witch find love with an old-fashioned mundane who refuses to settle for anything less than forever?
*MY THOUGHTS*
I ended up liking this a lot more than I thought. I actually had started this before and wasn’t interested, so I let my hold lapse. But then when I was trying to hit my #FallinLoveBingo, I kept hearing this was one of the books I needed to hit my Bingo. And sure enough, it was! So I gave it another chance.
Danica is a modern witch. She makes her living by working in a tech repair shop. She’s able to feel where things are broken by just a touch. But when the “Cinnaman” comes into her place of business asking for help, they realize they want to be more than just friends. Is it destiny or is it magic?
The main 2 things I didn’t like about this book kind of go hand in hand. The first thing was the insta-love. He actually drops the L-word on like their 2nd or 3rd time being together. (I don’t remember) And I was just like “Whaaaaa?” But this is explained a little more in the end of the book, but by then I was already turned off by it.
The other thing was the plot. This is why I said they go hand in hand. It was all over the place. Some things were hard to follow along and somethings were mad annoying early in the story because it wasn’t explained until the end. (For normal things this is ok, but not insta-love) Which meant I spent the entire book annoyed at them and the book. I don’t want to be annoyed most of the time while reading. It makes a negative experience overall for me.
As for the couple themselves, I actually really liked the both of them apart. I thought Danica’s power was cool. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a witchy power like that before. And the Cinnaman, Titus, really was a Cinnamon Roll hero. He was so sweet and I loved his representation. (He was bisexual) The two of them apart had their own reasons to love them. But them together kept blinking at me that they were forced together. [SPOILER] They actually were, so I felt vindicated lol [END SPOILER]
This book wasn’t exactly what I was expecting, but I don’t mean that in a bad or good way. There were some good things and some not so good things, but that’s with most books. The problem was mostly the execution. Hopefully since that plot line is over the next one will be better. It’s already shaping up to be better from the love interest alone….
Overall, I give this
