Two for Tuesday: You’re On Thin Ice!

These themes will vary! It could be based off of some book mail I just received, pop culture, something personal to me, a headline from the news, a trend I noticed when I was buying books for my library system, etc. I hope you stick around to see all the themes and book recs I come up with!

Today’s Theme: You’re On Thin Ice!

As a sports fan I can’t believe I haven’t really done a sports edition TfT! So here we are! These last few years we started to see all those hockey books trickle down into YA and MG. And I also like hockey, so I wanted to spotlight some hockey books that were released recently! In Heart Check by Emily Charlotte, the star hockey player and his worst enemy are navigating life after the hockey coach was caught misallocating funds. There’s not a lot of the game time in the book, but with the practices, and the gear, and seeing how people acted toward those that weren’t jocks, it was hella believable. [This is a YA book and it’s out today!]

I’m still reading Breaking the Ice by Natalie Blitt, but I am loving it. If I were to tell you there was a book that had a figure skater and a hockey player, your bias would have you thinking one thing…. But this MG books turns that assumption on its head. Harper is the hockey team’s captain…. Or she was before she decided not to ever get on the ice again. But then Jason, the figure skating champion comes to town and she starts to rethink that. I love that this book shows these two amazing athletes navigating the ice as well as a budding new romance. [This is a MG book and is out now!]

Well, there you go! Here I’m just going to talk about why I grouped these two books together. I hope you enjoyed a look at this small part of the books. For a full synopsis of the book or to add it to your TBR, click the picture and it will take you to their Storygraph. The link on the caption will take you to it’s Goodreads.

And because I was not Pucking Around when I did my hockey book research…

Bea Mullins Takes a Shot is a MG book that I read and adored earlier this year. And Goal is an adult book that I read and loved. I’m currently reading Fake Skating, a YA book by Lynn Painter. Now I have not read Skate it Till You Make It yet, but it comes out next year in Feb. I can’t wait to read this while I’m watching the Winter Olympics! Written on Ice is also not out yet, but its supposed to be like a mystery and Dark Academia! Love on Ice is a YA book that comes out next year too! (This is not an exhaustive list… like Sunny Disposition and Wake Up Nat & Darcy aren’t on here!)

I also didn’t realize that there were so many books that have hockey players and ice skaters who fall for each other. These were some of my faves as I was reading them. There’s a lot more, but these are the ones I’ve actually read or have on my immediate TBR lol

What about you? Do you like hockey? Have you read any of these? Let me know in the comments!
