Two for Tuesday: We’re All Stories in the End…

These themes will vary! It could be based off of some book mail I just received, pop culture, something personal to me, a headline from the news, a trend I noticed when I was buying books for my library system, etc. I hope you stick around to see all the themes and book recs I come up with!

Today’s Theme: We’re All Stories in the End

Yesterday would have been Malcolm’s 100th birthday so he was part of the main reasons I wanted to highlight this book and other stories about enthralling people like him. So basically this is my small way of paying homage to them. This is the Youth Readers Edition of his life that’s written for MG readers. I learned a few things more about him from this one and I feel like Kendi did a great job enticing young readers with the most interesting parts of him. This book will definitely open the eyes of some younger readers who might have heard of him, but didn’t know much about him beforehand. [This is a MG biography]

I haven’t read Marsha’s story yet, because I just keep thinking of how powerful it would be to read this during Pride month. If you didn’t know, Marsha P. Johnson threw the first brick in the 1969 Stonewall Uprising, which happened on June 28, 1969. In the synopsis of this book they mentioned that after she threw the brick, “she picked up a shard of broken mirror to fix her makeup.” Can you say ICONIC? I can’t wait. I can’t wait to pick this up and learn more about her. She was an activist and an icon and I can’t wait to learn her whole story.

Well, there you go! Here I’m just going to talk about why I grouped these two books together. I hope you enjoyed a look at this small part of the books. For a full synopsis of the book or to add it to your TBR, click the picture and it will take you to their Storygraph. The link on the caption will take you to it’s Goodreads.

More Stories About People You Might Want to Get to Know

These are some of the stories I want to know a little more of! I have read Make Your Mark since it’s a picture book. Me and my son read it together. Y’all know I’m interested in the Tina Knowles book since we’re from the same place (Fun Fact lol) And y’all know I LOVE the Harlem Renaissance, so I’m excited to read those. And the book about Madame Queen? It sounds AMAZING. Even my mom was asking more about her lol And Josephine Baker and Dawn Staley are two queens who are on my hold lists already. I can’t wait to learn more about these people! If you’ve read any of these already, let me know!

What kind of non-fiction do you like? Do you like bios, auto-bios, and memoirs too? Let me know in the comments!
