These themes will vary! It could be based off of some book mail I just received, pop culture, something personal to me, a headline from the news, a trend I noticed when I was buying books for my library system, etc. I hope you stick around to see all the themes and book recs I come up with!
Today’s Theme: Vampires are B(L)ACK!
I haven’t really liked vampires since Twilight, so seeing vampires have this come back just wasn’t interesting to me. That is, until I heard they were Black. Y’all know it doesn’t matter what it is or what it’s about, if it’s Black, I’m going to read it. And this one is no different. This book is said to have some Black vampires in the jazz era IN HARLEM and I don’t know how things can get better than that? Oh that’s right, it’s LGBTQ+ too! So it looks like its monster and monster hunter as well, so this should be interesting.
Imagine my surprise when I heard about this book. During the whole vampire craze we had back in the day, I don’t remember a single one that was Black (that wasn’t a villain) or that wasn’t actually just a side character. And now we we’re getting TWO books that have Black vampires? I haven’t read either of these yet, so I don’t know HOW Black they are, but the authors are both Black and their main characters are Black and that’s enough for me. I’ve been following them both since before these books even had a cover, so this is going to be hella exciting. I can’t wait to get my hands on these!
Well, there you go! Here I’m just going to talk about why I grouped these two books together. I hope you enjoyed a look at this small part of the books.
