Two for Tuesday: Gothic Retellings!

These themes will vary! It could be based off of some book mail I just received, pop culture, something personal to me, a headline from the news, a trend I noticed when I was buying books for my library system, etc. I hope you stick around to see all the themes and book recs I come up with!

Today’s Theme: Gothic Retellings!

Another thing I love to see in horror is retellings. Whether its fairy tale retellings, classic retellings, or other beloved retellings, I love them all. So course I had to show off these two Gothic Retellings! This one is loose retelling of the classic that a lot of people don’t usually look toward, The Picture of Dorian Gray. This one also has a creepy painting that has unusual powers and people get trapped inside it. There is some real shady icky stuff happening too, all the while the main character just wants to find her sister.

Ok so this one is actually really crazy. You will NEVER think by the cover alone that this is a loose retelling of Frankenstein lol I did not know that’s what this was until I got a copy in the mail and was asking myself why I never added this to my TBR before. A gender-bent, modern day Frankenstein is NOT something I had on my Bingo card, but I’ll be damned if I’m not trying to squeeze it in somewhere. This sounds incredible. I wish there was an audio so I could fly through this!

Well, there you go! Here I’m just going to talk about why I grouped these two books together. I hope you enjoyed a look at this small part of the books. For a full synopsis of the book or to add it to your TBR, click the picture and it will take you to their Storygraph. The link on the caption will take you to it’s Goodreads.

What about you? Do you read the classics? What about retellings of them? Let me know in the comments!
