These themes will vary! It could be based off of some book mail I just received, pop culture, something personal to me, a headline from the news, a trend I noticed when I was buying books for my library system, etc. I hope you stick around to see all the themes and book recs I come up with!
Today’s Theme: Climate Action!
So I decided to go with books talking about climate action for this one because the book I’m currently reading is hitting a little too close to home, so I wanted to talk more about it. In this book the two main characters are fighting to become the President of the Climate Action club. But they have so many different ideas and different ways to handle the wildfires that are ravaging where they live, and they just don’t get along. But they finally do start working together and begin to really HEAR each other because they have one common goal: find ways to stop the fires, help the environment now, and help save it for the future.
This is the book that made me want to say something. I live in a place where we’re in danger of hurricanes every year, between June and November. And every year I get terrified that this is going to be the hurricane that pushes us off the map. So every year in June I always get all the hurricane snacks and we own things like battery powered fans, etc. And we have “go bags” etc. And all of this is also found in this book, but she is prepping for earthquakes. This book is reminding me so much of me and it’s kind of scaring me lol But in this one, she is making a D-Day bunker and she walks around with iodine packs in her backpack in case nukes start going up in the air. Her climate anxiety makes her think there’s no more hope for the environment, even if more of us work to help it. I’m only 100 pages in, but I am obsessed with this book and clearly relating to it way too hard. Adia’s debut novel won the 2024 Coretta Scott King John Steptoe New Talent Award, and if this one doesn’t also win some type of award (even if it’s local where I am lol) then I am going to RIOT.
Well, there you go! Here I’m just going to talk about why I grouped these two books together. I hope you enjoyed a look at this small part of the books. For a full synopsis of the book or to add it to your TBR, click the picture and it will take you to their Storygraph. The link on the caption will take you to it’s Goodreads.
Do you know what climate anxiety is? What natural disasters do you experience where you’re from? Have you read either one of these? Will you? Let me know in the comments!
