These themes will vary! It could be based off of some book mail I just received, pop culture, something personal to me, a headline from the news, a trend I noticed when I was buying books for my library system, etc. I hope you stick around to see all the themes and book recs I come up with!

Today’s Theme: Black Heritage in Horror Month!
I had never heard about Black Heritage in Horror Month, but author Ally Russell mentioned it on her stories and I couldn’t resist looking it up! I mean this is me every month, but this just gave me some extra umph lol it mostly focuses on movies, but can also include writing. So for today I chose some horror books by Black people. This MG book is actually written by Ally Russell lol As of now, I’m scared ish-less because I HATE spiders lol but I’ll try anything for Ally. (She wrote that big foot book that I read last year too.) I know I’m going to have to sleep with the lights on for a while after reading this, but I will do it lol
This one just released the cover and I couldn’t love it more. It’s described via Goodreads as a gothic horror fantasy modernized version of Frankenstein. And Lordt knows that sounds right up my alley. ESPECIALLY by Kalynn Bayron. I LOVED her Jekyll and Hyde reimagining, so I know this will be good. She has a way of telling the story but still making it her own. And as an added bonus she makes it scary af too. I can’t wait to get to this one. I’m already counting down the days until I get it in my hands.
Well, there you go! Here I’m just going to talk about why I grouped these two books together. I hope you enjoyed a look at this small part of the books. For a full synopsis of the book or to add it to your TBR, click the picture and it will take you to their Storygraph. The link on the caption will take you to it’s Goodreads.
More Horror by Black Folks to Add to Your TBR:

Another thing I love about the horror genre is the way it’s so diverse genre wise. There’s zombies like in TSIATR and there’s gothic horror where its mostly the vibes like in TCH and the ghosts/haints are terrifying all on their own. Also, just a heads up, GFTA & TSIATR aren’t out yet!

What about you? Have you read any horror? What about horror by Black Folks? What’s your favorite trope or subgenre of horror? Let me know in the comments!
