Two for Tuesday: Black Children’s Book Week!

These themes will vary! It could be based off of some book mail I just received, pop culture, something personal to me, a headline from the news, a trend I noticed when I was buying books for my library system, etc. I hope you stick around to see all the themes and book recs I come up with!

Today’s Theme: Black Children’s Book Week!

This week (2/23-03/01) is Black Children’s Book Week! So today I’m going to talk about an age group that’s been under a lot of controversy. From how long they are, to people thinking they are being more focused on writing up to the next audience, and more. So I wanted to shine some good light on some MIDDLE GRADE books that I can’t wait for! In this first one, I saw the cover and that was literally all I needed. The cover for Kaya Morgan’s Crowning Achievement by Jill Tew isn’t hard to be drawn into. Look how cute she is! And she’s going to the Renaissance Faire and breaking barriers in cosplay. I just KNOW this is going to be cute! There is a parental death, so check your content warnings, but I still think it’s going to be pretty cute.

Y’all know this is a Derrick Barnes stan account blog, so when he released this cover the other day I immediately added it to my TBR! It’s a sports book (football) AND one of the main themes is social justice. And when I went to add this to my TBR, I read the synopsis (WHATTTT??? lol) and the last line has stayed with me ever since.–> “Spanning the 1800s to today, it shows how much has changed over centuries. . . and, at the same time, how little.” Also, I really need to know what it is they meant when they said “he would play OR ELSE.” Excuse me, what?! So yeah, I just know this is going to be good!

Well, there you go! Here I’m just going to talk about why I grouped these two books together. I hope you enjoyed a look at this small part of the books. For a full synopsis of the book or to add it to your TBR, click the picture and it will take you to their Storygraph. The link on the caption will take you to it’s Goodreads.
