Top 10 Reasons Why I Love Reading!
These are in no particular order! They are listed merely as they come to mind!
- You get to go places: This brings me to the name of my blog! We didn’t always have a lot of money for vacations, so when we did, it was that we usually an hour down the road from us in Houston. So I used books (as a kid and now) to take me to the other places. This is why I like keeping track of all the places I read about in books. I can either keep track of the places and visit them later if I ever go OR I can say I DID visit… (Which I did, but not really lol)
- It keeps my imagination fresh: If that makes any sense at all lol I just mean that when I read I can still picture the things in my head. Like if I was to read “The gecko climbed up the wall.” I still use my imagination, so I will actually see that gecko climbing up a wall. But compared to someone else who doesn’t, they will more than likely only see the words.
- I am still learning new things: It doesn’t matter if I’m listening to an adult book or reading a physical YA book, I still learn new words and sometimes other things when I’m reading. It’s actually one of the reasons why I still keep a notebook with me when I’m reading. If I learn a new word, something interesting, or even something that has sent me on a hyper-focus ADHD spiral, I can just write it down.
- I get a break from my problems: Listen, this is one of the main reasons I love reading. As y’all know, life isn’t easy. If it’s not one thing, it’s another. When I’m reading (especially if it’s YA) I’m able to let my own problems go. When I’m reading adult, we might have the same problems, but they might also have some cool something that I never could have dreamed of also.
- Windows and Mirrors: As such a diverse individual, I spend a lot of my time trying to read diverse books and to finally experience seeing myself in a book. This is why I will ALWAYS buy a book that represents me in some way. (Black, ADHD, Anxiety, & Fat) I need for people to read more about people like me and know more about me as well.
- The fact that troupes exist: It sounds weird, but I love reading because I love that troupes exist. I love seeing the infinite ways an author can manipulate a troupe and mold it to fit their story. And to make it good! There’s no way I could do that. I’m a reader, not a writer and the fact that they can do this impresses the hell out of me!
- It’s a hobby I can actually do for free: I know you’re probably like “WTF does she know how much a hardcover costs?!” I assure you I do lol But when I say that I can do it free, I mean using the library. I may not get the hot release right away, but I will eventually and it will be FREE!
- It’s so versatile of a hobby I can multi-task while doing it: As an audiobook reader, I love how they let me do other things. I am able to read while I’m doing the laundry, cleaning, cooking, and more recently, I’ve been listening while feeding the baby. All of these things I would never have been able to do if I was reading a physical book.
- It’s so relaxing: There’s just something about opening a book while having a cup of coffee and its raining hard enough for me to hear it outside. It just something about that scene that takes my breath away. Even if I don’t have all that, just having the book and escaping to that land (where ever it may be) is the ultimate relaxation to me.
- It’s not something that’s expected of me: As a younger looking Black girl, no expects me to love reading. And even if they did, it’s never the amount of what they expected or what they want me to read. (Apparently at my age level, I should ONLY be reading non-fiction stuff about being Black or how to make money.) But I love making them wrong and saying that I do in fact love reading, even if it’s not the stuff you want me to read, it’s still something.
This was a little harder that I thought. The first few came easily, but for the others, I really had to sit and think on them for a minutes. What about you? Did you find it hard? Do you like reading for any of the same reasons I do? Let me know in the comments!
This one was a little challenging. I never really thought about multiple reasons for why I love reading. I just do! Lol. I agree with your reasons too!
Here’s my Tuesday Post
Have a GREAT day!
