Hey y’all! If you’re new here, welcome! If not, welcome back!

So I want to try to keep this short while still giving you all the background. So I’ve had this blog for like 15(ish? lol) years. I started only blogging about YA and MG. As I got older I added some adult in there as well, but my heart still belonged to YA because I had it in my heart that I wanted to become a YA librarian. I never stopped reviewing YA and MG. In 2017 I graduated with my MLIS and by 2018 I had my first YA librarian gig.
Even as a student I kept the blog going. Yes I had to take some breaks, but the core of it stayed the same. I worked so hard to get involved with my state library organization and made sure to stay on top of trends and volunteer to do all the things with the org. I even applied to be on some of our state reading lists. I was accepted to one FINALLY, but then I got promoted again and wasn’t eligible. Without having read a single book LOL I spent a lot of time beating myself up over being good at my job lol

Fast forward to last year when my new manager realized how big of a nerd I am and told me to shoot my shot for an American Library Association award committee. I must have looked at her like she had two heads lol I didn’t think I had it in me. (I’m terrified of rejection lol) But I tried it and didn’t get it. But then a couple months later they came back and asked for more help. I shot my shot again, and well…………………… I got in!!!!!!!!

So the ALA award I’ll be working on is the William C. Morris Award. This award “honors a book published by a first-time author writing for teens and celebrating impressive new voices in young adult literature.” We’ll end up with 1 winner and some honor books. So for this coming year I won’t be reviewing anything that could fall under this. I don’t want to jeopardize any leaks or anything, so I’ll be keeping my lips sealed on anything that could fall under this category. It didn’t hit me until I started thinking about what I had already read or already had on my TBR how many debuts I actually read every year. So with that being said, there will have to be some changes done here on the blog. I’m going to refrain from mentioning them at all. I will still review anything else that has nothing to do with the Morris award. It will be the 2026 award, but it will be the 2025 debuts.

I know it’s not a huge change since I’ll still be reviewing some YA, but I wanted to be transparent about what’s going on. So if I didn’t accept an opportunity or ARC from you or told you I needed more information about something before I agreed, it was because I was in limbo for this. And I didn’t know which one I was chosen for or when we started. So now that I know, the answer is yes if I still can. As long as I’m not asked to review a debut YA book 😁 (And if you asked me and I was being cagey, I’m sorry lol I was trying not to jinx myself lol)

Oh wow! Congrats Nikki! That’s amazing!! <3
