Scream meets YA in this hotly-anticipated new novel from the bestselling author of Anna and the French Kiss.
One-by-one, the students of Osborne High are dying in a series of gruesome murders, each with increasing and grotesque flair. As the terror grows closer and the hunt intensifies for the killer, the dark secrets among them must finally be confronted.
International bestselling author Stephanie Perkins returns with a fresh take on the classic teen slasher story that’s fun, quick-witted, and completely impossible to put down.

*MY THOUGHTS*

It’s been a long time since I read what I wanted. Normally if I know it comes out soon, I try to read it before anything else. But with this book, I couldn’t wait. I’ve been so interested in this book since I had only heard rumors about it.
Students in this small Nebraska town are beginning to to die in gruesome murders and no one knows who it could be. As rumors fly, a handful of students try to solve the case on their own.
The main thing that irritated me about this book was the fact that the killer was revealed entirely too early. I normally wait until the very last moment to make my guess on who it is, but with this time I didn’t get that chance. I read it and just didn’t want to believe that they told us who it was so early. This really aggravated me. I didn’t think it should have been handled that way.
I also did not like that it wasn’t as scary or as heart pounding as I wanted it to be. For it to be labeled as horror, I was not that scared. It sucked because I pulled this one above all my other September reads and it wasn’t exactly what I was expecting. I had such high hopes that this one would make me want to sleep with my lights on, but in reality it didn’t even make me want to put the book down.
However, in true Perkins’ fashion, the writing style was amazing. As one of my favorite authors of contemporary romances, I was scared that this would not turn out so well… But I was proven wrong. I loved that she has branched out and is not stuck in only one genre. I’m interested to see where she goes from here.
Lastly, I really liked the romance. Another thing that was done in true Perkins fashion. No the romance was not front and center, but it was still in the story and was still important. I was happy to see that Perkins didn’t change everything about her writing!
This book is definitely a turn from what everyone is used to her writing. I can’t wait to see what else she comes up with in the future.
Overall, I give this

  1. Oh no! I was hoping that this one would be a heart-pounding kind of thriller! I'm still going to give it a try because I wanted to give it a go, but it's sad that it wasn't as terrifying as it could've been! Glad to see it was still a nice read! Great review!

  2. I thought it was strange that the killer was revealed so early too, but I did enjoy the strange murders (that's a weird thing to say I feel like).
