Carey Douglas has worked for home remodeling and design gurus Melissa and Rusty Tripp for nearly a decade. A country girl at heart, Carey started in their first store at sixteen, and—more than anyone would suspect—has helped them build an empire. With a new show and a book about to launch, the Tripps are on the verge of superstardom. There’s only one problem: America’s favorite couple can’t stand each other.
James McCann, MIT graduate and engineering genius, was originally hired as a structural engineer, but the job isn’t all he thought it’d be. The last straw? Both he and Carey must go on book tour with the Tripps and keep the wheels from falling off the proverbial bus.
Unfortunately, neither of them is in any position to quit. Carey needs health insurance, and James has been promised the role of a lifetime if he can just keep the couple on track for a few more weeks. While road-tripping with the Tripps up the West Coast, Carey and James vow to work together to keep their bosses’ secrets hidden, and their own jobs secure. But if they stop playing along—and start playing for keeps—they may have the chance to build something beautiful together…
From the “hilariously zany and heartfelt” (Booklist) Christina Lauren comes a romantic comedy that proves if it’s broke, you might as well fix it.
From the New York Times bestselling author behind the “joyful, warm, touching” (Jasmine Guillory, New York Times bestselling author) The Unhoneymooners comes a delightfully charming love story about what happens when two assistants tasked with keeping a rocky relationship from explosion start to feel sparks of their own.
BETWEEN THE COVERS!
*This book is part of the new adult contemporary romance genre! It is more mature than YA. I have featured it in Between the Covers as a way to feature the few Adult and New Adult titles I am beginning to read!”

*MY THOUGHTS*

I sat on what I wanted to say about this all day because I was a bit disappointed. I LOVED The Unhoneymooners and I was looking for more of the same. Unfortunately, that wasn’t what this was…. It was a good story and it kept me interested, but it didn’t touch my love for their other works.
I think what made me not like this too much was the characters. I did not like really anyone except James and Carey. Everyone else was terrible and I hated reading scenes that had them. And trust me, that was really hard to read (listen?) because there weren’t that many other characters. They really made this hard to like.
I did like the plot and how the story was told. I thought the use of other sources (Twitter, Interview Questions, etc.) worked really well for this one. I was hooked trying to figure out what happened. I liked that they didn’t tell us what happened to the end. I liked how a little more was revealed after each was introduced. However, I’m only giving it this many stars because I didn’t like the way the way it was told. Idk, it just seemed a bit boring.
The romance itself was ok, but I didn’t feel like it was super knock my socks off like Josh and Haizell or Olive and Ethan. It just didn’t wow me like their others. I think they just seemed really boring compared to the others. And maybe knowing what they can do, I just wasn’t Wow-ed like I was in other books. Maybe the entire story suffered for me because I didn’t like the characters.
This was ok, but it wasn’t what I was expecting. I think I had built it up in my mind that it would be a five star read for me and I was left disappointed. Now I know what to expect going forward to their other books.
Overall, I give this
