The anticipated sequel to the instant New York Times bestseller featuring escapist romance and a wealthy Black family in 1910s Chicago
Like the blazing Chicago sun, the drama is heating up for the Davenports and their social set. Before the summer of 1910 drops its last petal, the lives—and loves—of these four young women will change in ways they never could have imagined:
Newly engaged Ruby Tremaine is eagerly planning her wedding to the love of her life when a nasty rumor threatens her reputation and her marriage. Olivia Davenport has committed to the social justice cause and secretly hopes she’ll be reunited with dashing lawyer Washington DeWight—until her parents decide she’s to marry someone else. Amy-Rose Shepherd is making her lifelong wish of owning a salon come true, but when an incident forces her to return to Freeport Manor, she’s back in the path of John Davenport, who still holds her heart. Helen Davenport is determined to get over her own heartbreak and bring the Davenport Carriage Company into the new century, even if it means teaming up with a thrill-seeking racecar driver who just loves to get under her skin.
Inspired by the real-life story of the Patterson family, More Than This is the second book in critically adored Davenports series, following four empowered and passionate young Black women as they navigate a rapidly changing society and discover the courage to steer their own paths in life—and love.

*MY THOUGHTS*

As soon as I saw that this book was going to be a thing, I have been counting down the days until I got it in my hands. And then when i finally got it, I had to wait because Lordt knows I wanted to immediately talk about it. But I waited until we were about a month out, and I finally decided it was time.

OK so this one starts right after the first one ended. I remember being all in a tizzy because of how Ruby and Amy Rose’s story ended. We get all of those answers in this one. Now Ruby is planning her wedding and Amy Rose is putting in the work to be a salon owner. Both of them are living their dreams and it made me so happy to see! Especially Amy Rose. She had so many tough breaks and none of which were her fault. And Ruby was my least favorite in the first one, so I was not as excited to see what happened, but she grew on me towards the end. In this one, I don’t think I had any ill will toward her lol

Olivia and Helen were pretty much the same. I was very proud of Olivia and her strong stance in all the things she was learning and doing. It’s magnified in this one and I was very impressed. She seemed so much like me. Always wanting to help, but never be in the limelight. I think I gave her a standing ovation at the end tho. And Helen was very cute too. LMAO She’d hate me for using those words, but I’m so serious. And the whole race car thing? That was bad ass! I can’t believe we started this with just a carriage company!

I do wish there was more drama tho. It seemed like this whole book was just tying up loose ends from the first one. I wanted to see more of the gossip and crazy that was in the first one all the way until the end. Even the shop drama was all wrapped up. But this makes me think that this is end. Because there was nothing let for us to really hang on to. It really felt like everyone took care of business and they were in a good place. I will say tho, the gossip and the drama that WAS there was heavy! lol I remember saying, “WTH?!” through everybody’s drama.

I did like the first one more, but I think that might be because it was a whole new world and I don’t usually go for historical books so I wanted to know what it was all about. Don’t get me wrong, I still used them both, but I do wish this one was a little less tidy. Unless this is the end of the series? In that case, I liked that it was wrapped up lol

If you enjoyed the first one, you’ll like this one too. And now we wait to see if there’s more or if those were the last words of the Davenports. 🙁 At the very least, let’s hope there’s more from at least Helen. Or even her parents. Or Olivia. I need to know how her new career is going. Ugh please tell me there’s more. I need all the updates.

Overall, I give this
