Samiah Brooks never thought she would be “that” girl. But a live tweet of a horrific date just revealed the painful truth: she’s been catfished by a three-timing jerk of a boyfriend. Suddenly Samiah-along with his two other “girlfriends,” London and Taylor-have gone viral online. Now the three new besties are making a pact to spend the next six months investing in themselves. No men, no dating, and no worrying about their relationship status.          For once Samiah is putting herself first, and that includes finally developing the app she’s always dreamed of creating. Which is the exact moment she meets the deliciously sexy, honey-eyed Daniel Collins at work. What are the chances? When it comes to love, there’s no such thing as a coincidence. But is Daniel really boyfriend material or is he maybe just a little too good to be true?

*MY THOUGHTS*

When I saw this was coming out, I was so excited! A book about a romance novel about a Black woman in STEM?! I knew I needed to have it. And although it wasn’t everything I expected, but I still liked it.

Samiah Brooks has just caught her catfishing, three timing boyfriend on a date with another girl. From this she tragedy comes triumph though, when she befriends the two other girls her boyfriend was with. They make a pact to take care of themselves and to stay away from men. Samiah decides it’s time to work on her app that she’s been working on for so long. It’s then that she meets Daniel Collins, the guy that makes her forget all about their no men pact.

The best thing about this was by far the characters. Well one of them anyway. Samiah was amazing. She was determined and a hard-worker and she reminded me of myself. And I also really liked the friends she found in the other two women. They both had their own personalities, but they were smart and hilarious just like Samiah. I can’t wait to see what other shenanigans they get up to in the next book.

As for Daniel, I didn’t really care for him. I did in the beginning, but after that stunt he pulled, all that went out the window. That lie was just a little too big for me. That could have cost her a lot, and it didn’t seem like he thought of that, of her. It just left me with an icky feeling.

Everything else was just ok to me. The plot moved at a good pace. I’m not always an office romance fan, so the setting was ok. And this was supposed to be rom-com, but it wasn’t funny except when the friends were around. And I don’t remember laughing too much while reading. And lastly, the romance was ok. I was already put off by the huge lie, but the grand gesture and the epilogue was good. On my scale, I would put it at 3. It was more than a little of the smexy times on the page, but it wasn’t graphic or anything.

I was so happy to see this book with people on the cover that looked like me, that was about a smart woman who didn’t take no ish. I can’t wait to see what else Rochon comes up with!

Overall, I give this
