One holiday tradition my mom always wanted to do with us but never did is celebrate Kwanzaa. She did educate me on what it is and what everything means, but we never got around to ever doing it. But now that I’m starting my own family, I wanted to do celebrate this year (even if Pre-K Kid won’t remember it lol) That way we’ll be ready to celebrate it the way we should when the Pre-K Kid is bigger.
So, for 2025 I decided to celebrate Kwanzaa through literature again. I’ll be listing the principles for each day along with a book that matches the principles. If you can think of other titles that match the principles, tell me, I’d love to discuss.

Day 6 is Kuumba. It means Creativity. The process is much of the same, light the previous candles, and then light the middle green candle. The person who lights it then makes a statement about Creativity.
For me, I’m not super creative, but I have had so much fun making Tiktoks and Reels. I enjoy doing skits and things because they put a smile on people’s face. The skits are funny yeah, but I hope to also try and bring my Two for Tuesdays to my channels. I thought it might be hard because I don’t have a lot of the books I use, but I can make it work. That’s what the stickers on the apps are for right?
The book I thought about first when thinking of Creativity was:

This is probably a little morbid (and a spoiler so if you haven’t read it, don’t look!) , but the reason I thought about this book was because of the way they were sewing up people and using all the make-up and even just using their knowledge for the funeral dressings. Definitely creative, but also sad. I don’t know that I would call it creative, but I don’t know what else to call it either. This book was so good!

What about you? What books do you think of when you think of Kuumba or Creativity? Do you think of this one as well? Let me know in the comments!
