For Readers Interested In: Contemporary, Romance, Summer Lovin, Realistic Fiction, YAA lighthearted and swoony contemporary YA romance by fan-favorite author Kasie West about a girl who finds that a summer spent at a family resort isn’t as bad as she imagined…and that falling in love is filled with heartache, laughter, and surprises!
After being betrayed by her best friend, Avery is hoping for a picture-perfect summer. Too bad her parents have dragged her and her sister to a remote family camp for the entire summer. And that’s not even the worst part. Avery also has to deal with no internet, a cute but off-limits staff member, and an always-in-her-face sister.
But what starts as a disaster turns into a whirlwind summer romance as Avery embarks on an unexpected journey to figure out what she truly wants and who she wants to be.
*MY THOUGHTS*
Anytime there’s a book with Kasie West on the cover, I know I HAVE to read it. And this one was no different. Add on to the fact that this is a summery kind of romance set at a summer camp? I knew I needed to read this ASAP.
Avery has been betrayed by the person who she thought was her best friend, And worse yet, she’s being sent to a summer camp with her sister and her parents. There’s no wifi and the cute staff member she meets is off limits. Can she survive this summer without losing it completely?
The main thing I didn’t care for about this book was the plot. This was soooooo predictable. I liked the bit about the band festival. It gave it a nice spin, but for literally everything else, it was super predictable. Maybe it’s the fact that I’ve read so many romances, but it just didn’t spark anything for me,
The romance was actually really cute tho. I liked them together, but I did wish that it had some more romance to it. It felt more like a coming of age story with some romance mixed in. I think I felt this way because they had to hide it, and I’m not a huge fan of that. But that’s just me. It might have worked for someone else.
This book was good, but it wasn’t anything to write home about. Everything was really basic and I felt like it was something I had heard before. But even still, it was written by Kasie West, so it had SOMETHING I liked.
Overall, I give this
I feel like West (or maybe even just YA romance in general?) can be really hit or miss. My favorite from her is still far and away Lucky in Love.
