This bookish meme tells the blogosphere what all we borrowed, bought, and received for review. It’s hosted over at Tynga’s Reviews.
Thank you Netgalley and publishers! And hella thanks for the audio of Together We Burn! I really hope there’s music and stuff since it’s about flamenco dancers for a little bit. I can’t wait to see if it does!
I have no idea what this is about, but the cover is so cute, it’s set on a beach and it features an LGBTQ+ couple? SOLD. (I’ve also never read/heard of this author before, so tell me if I need to stay away lol)
The top two are physical audios….. Idk the last time I checked out physical audios, but since I’m going to need them for commute time back to the office -__- I figured now was the time to bring them back.
Ok so ignore that this is a computer screenshot from my stories, but I didn’t feel like pulling out my phone. I fell asleep when they baby did (around 8) and now I’m just being lazy. So anyways, for a little back story. As most of you know I am a Collection Development Librarian. I put things on shelves, both digital and physical, take care of upkeep, make sure it’s balanced, look out for high holds, etc. etc. My library system is county run, so we have to answer to commissioners. Well one of our commissioners has a deep love for the classics. In the libraries in his precinct, he always requests a “Commissioner Corner” that houses all the classics. Normally that would have nothing to do with the YA selector, but I knew that Fierce Reads had this new line coming out of the Remixed Classics. I asked my manager if we could add some YA retellings to the corner too. Just to spice it up a bit. She told me to make something to plead my case at the next meeting and she’ll let me know what he says. I reached out to them to see if they could help me get my point across, and they said they didn’t have anything right then and I said ok, thanks and honestly forgot about it. A few weeks later, the commissioner said YES! So I got to purchase ALL OF THE RETELLINGS! Not fairy tales, but the classics, that featured marginalized voices. Like Great that’s a retelling of Great Gatsby, but make it LGBTQ+ and Pride which is Pride & Predjuice but make it Black. And of course I added in the new Remixed Classics that are already out. Well some of these I hadn’t bought since they weren’t out yet and we were trying to fill the section ASAP. (The cool thing is, Fierce Reads didn’t even know that fact) But they remembered what I’m doing here and sent me all those. And they’re all re-tellings or remixes with a marginalized voice. I will be able to donate all of these to the commissioner corner. This is amazing. My librarian heart is so full. Thank you so much Fierce Reads!
As much as I’ve been talking about this one, y’all know I had to buy Nisha’s book! And if you still haven’t, GO DO IT NOW! And I guess I count Stoneheart here? It was free, but I actively went to seek it out and would have bought it if I had to? lol So yeah.
