READy to Talk is a new discussion meme that will come up few and far between, just when I have something bookish on my mind. Something that I want to get y’alls opinion on!
I realized that I told y’all about the job, but I never told y’all the outcome?! That makes me feel terrible lol I’m sorry I kept y’all hanging on for so long. So, without further ado, I guess I’ll tell y’all the outcome…..
So now, my days at the branches are over. It was fun while it lasted, but I was much more interested in trying to order books for my library system so I could help make sure our shelves were diverse, but they were in the correct communities. For example, my old library has a very large Latinx community just on the other side of the highway. When I first got there, there were ZERO YA books with Latinx characters on the shelves. In the 2 years I was there, I made that one of my priorities. And now I get to make sure this is done throughout the entire system.
I shouldn’t say this YET, because it’s not official, but I can’t keep it to myself. They want to re-write my position to make me the Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity Collection Development Librarian like I wanted. They were impressed with my interview, how I kept saying that was my passion and how I think of not only cultures, but family diversity, and financial diversity, and mental health, and everything. They are pitching this to my Director’s Office, so we will have to wait and see what he says.
So now we wait. I’ve got the job, but now I’m waiting to see how much more I can celebrate. I mean regardless I still have the job so it’s a reason to be happy and I will still be able to order all the things that promote Equity, so I won’t be too upset if it’s not approved. But having that specialization is definitely going to make me happy lol Definitely gives me a reason to think about furthering my education too………………. (PHD is that you????)
But we’ll cross that road when we get there. For now, I’m ok with what I’m doing and where I am. I guess I will wait and see what they decide! So that’s all, I just wanted to share this with you all! If you have questions about what I’m doing now, just comment down below or email me!
So tell me, does your library system have a Collection Development Librarian separate from the branches or do you order your own materials? Let me know in the comments!
What wonderful news! I wish you all the best in your new position, and I am sure you will do an incredible job.
Thank you! That means so much!
