Maya Killgore is twenty-three and still in the process of figuring out her life.
Conor Harkness is thirty-eight, and Maya cannot stop thinking about him.
It’s such a cliché, it almost makes her heart implode: older man and younger woman; successful biotech guy and struggling grad student; brother’s best friend and the girl he never even knew existed. As Conor loves to remind her, the power dynamic is too imbalanced. Any relationship between them would be problematic in too many ways to count, and Maya should just get over him. After all, he has made it clear that he wants her gone from his life.
But not everything is as it seems—and clichés sometimes become plot twists.
When Maya’s brother decides to get married in Taormina, she and Conor end up stuck together in a romantic Sicilian villa for over a week. There, on the beautiful Ionian coast, between ancient ruins, delicious foods, and natural caves, Maya realizes that Conor might be hiding something from her. And as the destination wedding begins to erupt out of control, she decides that a summer fling might be just what she needs—even if it’s a problematic one.
*MY THOUGHTS*
This wasn’t anything like what I was expecting. Y’all know how I am about weddings, so hearing that this was going to be them going to or getting ready for a wedding was all I needed to grab this for my TBR.
Ok so this was fun but she was annoying. This was the third romance in a row that made me side with a man. What are y’all doing out there?! I HATED the way she kept going after him. Idk if its my pride or what, but every time she tried to get him to be with her and she said no, she just did it again. And like I get it that persistence is key, but I’m not set up like that. I would have told him ok good luck and never mentioned him again. Ain’t no way I would have done all that she did. And like being for real if it was him doing that, y’all would think he was weird. But Idk. Maybe it’s just me that thought this was weird.
I’m a little sad because I was so looking forward to this. But I realized that I felt the same way about the first book in this series. I barely liked that one so it’s no surprise that this one didn’t do great with me. It was the romance that got me. Besides the daily trying to get with him, I just didn’t vibe with their romance. Not because of the age gap, but because it just felt weird. They didn’t really talk unless their clothes were already gone, and after him dodging her all this time, it was a bit like whiplash.
AND, it was too long in my honest opinion. She kept going on and on about her old room mates and the way it kept repeating some scenes over and over. (try to get with him, says no, mentions the room mates or the wedding, and then start all over again) At least one of those cycles could have been cut out. I’m sorry, this shouldn’t have been 11 hours long.
This was ok, but I don’t think I’ll read another book from this series. If there’s another, I’m done. I don’t think I can take anymore lol This was a little cringe, but still worth reading. Y’all pick up a copy and read it to let me know if you agree!
Overall, I give this,
