Operation: Baby Bookworm!

Baby Bookworm Project - Netmums

As you know, I’m a librarian, but also a new parent. Lately I’ve been trying to implement all the ways I used to tell parents to do things and include books in their daily lives,. I’ve bought him books, I read them to him every night, and I try to make the stories come alive. All while knowing that he has no idea what’s going on or all the things that’s happening. I read to him while he was in the womb, and I know from that he just liked hearing my voice.

Here’s some of the other things I do to promote reading in my household:

  • Keep his bookshelf stocked
  • Dress him in fandom clothes (As seen in the picture to the right)
  • “Show him pictures” of illustrations
  • Talk to him about the books we’re reading (baby cooing totally counts as talking lol)

LMAO As you can tell, there’s not really anything I’m doing besides actively reading to him every night. It’s not too hard, but I can definitely see the reasons some parents can’t. Trying to incorporate these practices is very hard when you’re also learning to nap when they nap and things like that. Even knowing how important it is incorporate reading into their lives.

So what about you? What do you think I should do to help raise my baby bookworm? What things have you done? Let me know in the comments!
