Source: OwnFor fans of: Romance, Paranormal, Gargoyles, Demons, Novella, YAIn a sizzling prequel novella to her new series THE DARK ELEMENTS, #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout draws readers into the extraordinary, irresistible world of Wardens and demons.
Dez wasn’t just Jasmine’s crush. A gargoyle Warden like Jas, he helped her come to terms with her destiny—fending off demons and maintaining balance between good and evil. He was her everything…right until the moment he disappeared without a trace. It didn’t help that Jas’s father had just announced that she and Dez would one day be mated. Hard not to take that personally.
And now he’s back, three years older, ten times hotter, ready to pick up exactly where they left off. But Jas isn’t taking that risk again. Dez has seven days to meet all her conditions and earn back her trust. Seven days filled with terrifying danger and sweet temptation. Seven days to win her heart—or shatter it all over again…
I just knew that this would be a great read when I saw that it was about gargoyles and written by Jennifer L. Armentrout. And you don’t understand how right I was. In this novella, the tone is set with a refreshing look into a brand new paranormal world. It gets readers ready for what to expect in White Hot Kiss.
What I liked most about this, is the fact that there is a different main character than the person who will be in WHK. This way we get more of a look into the world that has demons and those that hunt them. For example, what may have been important to Dez and Jasmine may not be as important to the main character in the next book.
As for the characters, Jasmine is your classic JLA female main character. Hard headed, stubborn, and in love. And of course, I LOVED her for this. She was strong and independent and knew exactly what she wanted. And of course it wouldn’t be a JLA book if there wasn’t a swoony boy in the mix. And that swoony boy is Dez. He is strong, very sexy, and someone who would do anything for his family and Jasmine. They made an amazing team together. He is trying to win her heart back and the task isn’t easy.
Lastly, I loved that this novella, even with it being about someone else, set the stage for the main character of the next story. It even explains towards the beginning of why it is so important. And I must admit, it really made me interested as to why the events in that situation took place like that. I can’t wait to see what happens.
