Where there are ghosts, Cassidy Blake follows … unless it’s the other way around?
Cass thinks she might have this ghost-hunting thing down. After all, she and her ghost best friend, Jacob, have survived two haunted cities while travelling for her parents’ TV show.
But nothing can prepare Cass for New Orleans, which wears all of its hauntings on its sleeve. In a city of ghost tours and tombs, raucous music and all kinds of magic, Cass could get lost in all the colourful, grisly local legends. And the city’s biggest surprise is a foe Cass never expected to face: a servant of Death itself.
Cass takes on her most dangerous challenge yet…

*MY THOUGHTS*

Once I heard this one was set in New Orleans, I just knew this one was going to be the best one yet. But unfortunately while it was good, it still wasn’t better than the one set in Paris imo. Which sucks because man I didn’t know how much I wanted to read a ghost story in New Orleans until I had one I didn’t love.

Cassidy Blake has been chasing ghosts for quite a while now and she thinks she’s finally gotten the hang of it. But when they get to New Orleans, which has all the things she has never encountered before. She’d run into many things, but this one she never expected to face….

I think the reason I wasn’t as fond of this one as the others was the way she treated the setting. New Orleans is one of my favorite places, and when I heard this story was going there I was hella excited. But I don’t feel like Schwab really explored all the things New Orleans has. Like yeah the voodoo and the cemeteries and bridge, but there’s so much more. And the only thing that seemed to consistently show up was beignets. (As they should, but still.) Schwab mentions other places, but none of them are really explored. Its like she talks about them, but they don’t seem spooky at all. When they talked about Paris and the catacombs, even I was scared and I’m in my 30’s.

I did like the thing she was chasing (or rather the thing that was chasing her) in this one. This time the ghost thing was hella creepy. I loved that it was also something that even Jacob found creepy and wanted to get rid of. It made me go and look them up and see if they were real, and if you’re a believer, you’ll be happy to know, many different forms of them do. Speaking of that, I found it hella interesting how she used Jacob in this one too. SPOILER: I thought for sure this would be the last book in the series, but Schwab surprised me. But Jacob coming back from that and suddenly finding an interest in wanting to help get rid of the ghosts didn’t really sit well with me. END SPOILER

But I’m glad this isn’t the last of their adventures. There wasn’t mention of where they were off to next this time, so it just might be the end. But if not, I wonder where they’ll go. The world is full of the unexplained! I really hope Scwab continues to let them explore more of it.

Overall, I give this
