A random connection sends two strangers on a daylong adventure where they make a promise one keeps and the other breaks, with life-changing effects, in this breathtaking new novel from the New York Times and #1 Globe and Mail bestselling author of Every Summer After.
Fern Brookbanks has wasted far too much of her adult life thinking about Will Baxter. She spent just twenty-four hours in her early twenties with the aggravatingly attractive, idealistic artist, a chance encounter that spiraled into a daylong adventure in Toronto. The timing was wrong, but their connection was undeniable: they shared every secret, every dream, and made a pact to meet one year later. Fern showed up. Will didn’t.
At thirty-two, Fern’s life doesn’t look at all how she once imagined it would. Instead of living in the city, Fern’s back home, running her mother’s Muskoka lakeside resort–something she vowed never to do. The place is in disarray, her ex-boyfriend’s the manager, and Fern doesn’t know where to begin.
She needs a plan–a lifeline. To her surprise, it comes in the form of Will, who arrives nine years too late, with a suitcase in tow and an offer to help on his lips. Will may be the only person who understands what Fern’s going through. But how could she possibly trust this expensive-suit wearing mirage who seems nothing like the young man she met all those years ago. Will is hiding something, and Fern’s not sure she wants to know what it is.
But ten years ago, Will Baxter rescued Fern. Can she do the same for him?

*MY THOUGHTS*

I actually really enjoyed Fortune’s last book, Every Summer After, so when I saw this one coming out I was all ready to read this one too. Unfortunately as I started reading this one it seemed like I could have just ESA again and got basically the same story. Ugh I was so excited for this one and it just didn’t work for me.

So the reason I say that is because the beginning was the same as ESA. They’re at a resort, something happens and then it’s not really explained. It really annoyed me because I was hella excited for this one. But I wasn’t really into it like I thought I would be. I just wanted more.

But the characters were ok, but I didn’t feel that much chemistry between the two of them. Especially since for the most part he was gone. Idk, it could also be the fact that I didn’t really like him. First off all, I didn’t really believe he was serious. Like did he really think it was ok to ghost this person because of that particular things? I just wanted to tell him BFFR. Anyone that wasn’t really okay with what you were dealing with was BS and you didn’t need them anyway. And I don’t know why he assumed everyone would be an asshole.

The romance itself wasn’t really a romance in my opinion. They didn’t really get into the romance until way late in the story. And because of that it ruined it for me. I am not a fan at all of slow burns, so when I saw what I was dealing with, I got annoyed. They seemed ok on their own tho, just not together.

This had so much potential, but it just wasn’t what I wanted. Sad because I thought this was going to be something I was shouting about from the rooftop like the first one. Idk, hopefully the next one by Fortune is as good as the first!

Overall, I give this
