Love in Color: A Love Story in Romance Tropes

Hey y’all! So I have another guest blogger today in my mini series for BIPOC romance! This one is so cool, and so creative, and so cute! So Without further ado:

My Love Story in Tropes

Last year, I asked in my stories “If your love story was set in tropes, what would they be?” and then I tried my best to pair them all up with book recommendations. I will probably never do this again because it was a lot harder to do than I thought and then I started second guessing my recommendations. But in the end, it was fun seeing everyone’s response. I had so many questions for some of them and wanted a storytime, but maybe we’ll save that for another time 😉

Today I wanted to share my tropes with The Mister. We’ve been together since 2009, we had a mutual friend, but just say that we met online because that’s essentially where it all started. On good ole Facebook. It was a whirlwind two weeks of exchanging DMs, emails, texts and occasional phone calls, and then I flew out to meet him. We met face to face for the first time at an airport and the rest is history. We married in 2012, life is chaotic with our two littles and not so great guard dog, and we are still navigating this military lifestyle.

Here are our tropes and some book recs to go alongside them:

So cute! Ok, so let’s see if I can do mine….

We met in college, around 2010. He became part of the brother fraternity to my sister sorority. We met at a “gathering” where we were getting to know them as new members. We ended up exchanging numbers and we got to be really close. We spent an entire summer staying on the phone so late that we fell asleep on each other.

We started out as really good friends who had a lot in common. So moving on, I had told A LOT of his friends I was feeling him and I was wondering if he had anyone he was talking to. For whatever reason, they didn’t want to tell me they wanted me to find out myself lol But as it turns out, one of his friends got drunk and spilled the beans. He ended up calling me immediately. He waited until we were getting off the phone late that night to call me and tell me we should try getting together. And so, we went from friends and then started dating like 3 months after we met.

After graduation we ended up getting engaged while we were on a cruise in 2015, on December 1st. We got married in 2017. (I used book quotes on my table numbers because I’m a nerd lol)

The rest is now lol We have a new little one who turned 10 months old yesterday and 2 dogs. (A pit and a chihuahua) Fun fact: He’s part of the reason I started this blog lol I needed more bookish friends at the time because he was tired of me talking about the books I was reading like he had also read them lol
