A clever, tender, and romantic “Nora Ephron romp for the modern ages” (Christina Lauren) for readers of Jasmine Guillory, Abby Jimenez, and Sophie Cousens, this laugh-out-loud debut is a perceptive reminder that fate can have a sense of humor, and that love can happen . . . In a New York Minute.
Franny Doyle is having the worst day. She’s been laid off from her (admittedly mediocre) job, the subway doors ripped her favorite silk dress to ruins, and now she’s flashed her unmentionables to half of lower Manhattan. On the plus side, a dashing stranger came to her rescue with his (Gucci!) suit jacket. On the not-so-plus side, he can’t get away from her fast enough.
Worse yet? Someone posted their (entirely not) meet-cute online. Suddenly Franny and her knight-in-couture, Hayes Montgomery III, are the newest social media sensation, and all of New York is shipping #SubwayQTs.
Only Franny and Hayes couldn’t be a more disastrous match. She’s fanciful, talkative, and creative. He’s serious, shy, and all about numbers. Luckily, in a city of eight million people, they never have to meet again. Yet somehow, Hayes and Franny keep running into each other – and much to their surprise, they enjoy each other’s company. A lot. But when Franny’s whole world is turned upside down (again!), can she find the courage to trust in herself and finally have the life – and love – she’s always wanted?

*MY THOUGHTS*

I’m going to be 100% honest with y’all. I added this to my TBR because I had seen SO MANY people loved it and I had a lot of TikTok friends recommending it to me. So I went and requested it from the library and listened to it as soon as I was able. And well, let’s just say it was ok, but I could have waited.

Franny is minding her own business, but then she gets to work and things start going downhill. She gets fired and then leaving the job she gets fired from, her dress splits open on the subway. And of course it’s not in the front where she can hold it close, nope, it’s up the back where she’s showing her butt to the world. Enter a knight in Gucci armor who’s there to offer her his jacket to help cover up her back (side lol) Just when she thought it was over, she finds out someone has put the whole thing online…. And it’s of course gone viral. But as it turns out, the knight with the jacket was Hayes, someone that couldn’t be a worse match for her. They decide to leave each other alone, but instead, they keep getting pushed together. Will they end up together or will they become worse enemies?

OK so I was so excited to pick this up because y’all know I love a good meet cute. And this one was most definitely that lol And because of the nature of the meet cute, I was under the impression that the rest of the story was going to be like that. I thought I was going to laugh the whole way through. But unfortunately I only really laughed at that point. It was kind of disappointing because it didn’t keep up that momentum. I wanted to laugh that way throughout the whole story, but it just didn’t happen for me. I did have a couple times where I updated my Goodreads with the crying laughing emoji, but at the time I was doing the, you know, classic text someone and say you’re lol-ing but you actually are looking like straight faced lol

I did like the characters tho. I loved Franny, but she was so frustrating at some points. I hated how she changed her mind so quickly lol But I think I hated it because I related to it so fully. I am ALWAYS second guessing the decisions I made. But I really hated Hayes for being so quiet about the whole thing. I get it, past pain prevented it, but damn it, I could definitely tell why she was confused. Thank God for his POV because I don’t think I would have realized he actually liked her without it.

The romance was ok, but again, I felt like it was one sided. But maybe that’s just me? (I like simpers ok? lol) Also, don’t go into this looking for spicy scenes. You won’t find them here. Saying this because I know the reason some of y’all read, and I don’t want y’all to get upset lol) Let’s just say on my spice scale it would be a 1. If there was a sex scene, I don’t remember it, so that should tell you all you need to know.

As it turns out, I just really thought it was basic. I get why so many people have been excited about it, but to me it was basic. And I want it to be known right now that I don’t mind basic at all. I still liked this even if I did feel like it was your basic run of the mill romance. It wasn’t bad, but I did feel like I’d read it 100 times before.

It’s easy to see why so many people liked this, but I fear I’m on the opposite side the fence from them. I liked it fine enough, but I don’t feel like I would have missed anything by not reading it. But just like me, you should read it and form your own opinion. That way you can let me know if you agree with me or not!

Overall, I give this
