Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

Hyperion Books For Children
published June 28th 2005
Fantasy, Adventure
After getting expelled from yet another school for yet another clash with mythological monsters only he can see, twelve-year-old Percy Jackson is taken to Camp Half-Blood, where he finally learns the truth about his unique abilities: He is a demigod, half human, half immortal. Even more stunning: His father is the Greek god Poseidon, ruler of the sea, making Percy one of the most powerful demigods alive. There’s little time to process this news. All too soon, a cryptic prophecy from the Oracle sends Percy on his first quest, a mission to the Underworld to prevent a war among the gods of Olympus.
This first installment of Rick Riordan’s best-selling series is a non-stop thrill-ride and a classic of mythic proportions.
This too has been made into a movie as well, but I didn’t watch this one either. I heard it was a really good one though. I like it so far because its one that I can just read to enjoy, I had to read and analyze during the school year. This is something just to last me through the last few days at home. As you know, I’ll give the review when I finish.
Letting the Pages of the Story “Take me Away”
*Review*

Ok, so I know this review was supposed to be about Beastly, but I really got stuck in this story. The only thing that has troubled me about writing this review was whether I should write it from the point of view as an adult or a big kid. So I guess I’ll do both. The one as an adult will be fairly short…. I like this one because it can serve as teacher for many children that are learning about Greek mythology. As he goes on the adventures throughout the story, he is introduced to many of the mythical creatures and gods. Even me who had to read the Illiad in college and could not stand it, loved those same gods and goddess in this book. As for the big kid in me, this book was AMAZING! It is mostly geared to those 11/12 years old, but it was filled with so many twists and turns. If you loved Harry Potter, you should read this too. Also there is the movie. I watched it too before writing this review. All I will say about the movie…. Its good if you have not read the book. Alot of things in the book did not appear in the movie which let me down because I wanted to see how they played out on the big screen as well as my mind’s eye. It is not like the book at all, but had I not read it or not read it first, I might have liked it more.

Overall I give it ***** (5 out of 5)
