In a delightful follow-up to Written in the Stars, Alexandria Bellefleur delivers another #ownvoices queer rom-com about a hopeless romantic who vows to show his childhood crush that romance isn’t dead by recreating iconic dates from his favorite films…
Brendon Lowell loves love. It’s why he created a dating app to help people find their one true pairing and why he’s convinced “the one” is out there, even if he hasn’t met her yet. Or… has he? When his sister’s best friend turns up in Seattle unexpectedly, Brendon jumps at the chance to hang out with her. He’s crushed on Annie since they were kids, and the stars have finally aligned, putting them in the same city at the same time.
Annie booked a spur-of-the-moment trip to Seattle to spend time with friends before moving across the globe. She’s not looking for love, especially with her best friend’s brother. Annie remembers Brendon as a sweet, dorky kid. Except, the 6-foot-4 man who shows up at her door is a certified Hot Nerd and Annie… wants him? Oh yes.
Getting involved would be a terrible idea—her stay is temporary and he wants forever—but when Brendon learns Annie has given up on dating, he’s determined to prove that romance is real. Taking cues from his favorite rom-coms, Brendon plans to woo her with elaborate dates straight out of Nora Ephron’s playbook. The clock is ticking on Annie’s time in Seattle, and Brendon’s starting to realize romance isn’t just flowers and chocolate. But maybe real love doesn’t need to be as perfect as the movies… as long as you think your partner hung the moon.

*MY THOUGHTS*

After the near perfect first book in this series, Written in the Stars, I knew I needed to get my hands on this. I liked Brendon from the first one and I glad to see what his love story was going to be like. And let me tell you, it was just as cute as it wanted to be!

Annie is surprising her best friend in Seattle before she moves across “the pond” for her new job. Unfortunately, she’s not actually there. So she agrees to be shown around the city by the her brother, Brendon. He’s definitely not the same guy he was when she first met him. Now he’s hot. But they’re still very different, while Brendon is a hopeless romantic, Annie just doesn’t believe in love. Can they set aside their differences and come together?

The writing style for this was still as awesome as ever. It was fun and cute and swoony. But for it to be called a rom com, I wasn’t exactly laughing like I was in the first one. But of course, that didn’t break the book. I was still sucked into Annie and Brendon’s love story. That part wasn’t really a surprise tho. I am a SUCKER for friends to lovers romance!

The characters were my favorite and my least favorite parts of this story though. I KNOW this doesn’t make any sense, but it does if you take the characters individually. Like Brendon is still hella cute and still the hopeless romantic that I remember. But Annie was the one I had issue with. Not because it was a real issue, but because I, like Brendon, am a hopeless romantic. It bothers me when people write off love before they give it a chance. The two of them together was a bit annoying, but when they finally got together, it was everything.

This series is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I am not a huge romance reader, but with series like this one, I find I like them more all the time. It’s good that there is now another book that’s in this series, Margot’s. Can’t wait to see what the author has in store for that one!

Overall, I give this
