Pip is not a detective anymore.
With the help of Ravi Singh, she released a true-crime podcast about the murder case they solved together last year. The podcast has gone viral, yet Pip insists her investigating days are behind her.
But she will have to break that promise when someone she knows goes missing. Jamie Reynolds has disappeared, on the very same night the town hosted a memorial for the sixth-year anniversary of the deaths of Andie Bell and Sal Singh.
The police won’t do anything about it. And if they won’t look for Jamie then Pip will, uncovering more of her town’s dark secrets along the way… and this time everyone is listening. But will she find him before it’s too late?
*MY THOUGHTS*
After finishing A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder I had instant regret. How on Earth was I supposed to wait until the next one came out?! I definitely should have waited to read it because I knew that wait was going to be hard. But somehow, I made it. Now I’m on the other side of book 2 and feel the same way about Book 3. Especially since I read the synopsis. Holly Jackson has made this a never ending cycle for me.
Pip is DONE being a detective. She’s vowed to not take anymore cases to those who listen to her podcast about the Andie Bell case she solved last year. Until one of her friends goes missing and the police won’t do anything about it. She knows that they won’t look for him, so she does it herself. But will she lose herself all over again like the last time? This time with the whole town listening?
Just like last time I LOVED the way Jackson told the story. Her writing style is impeccable. I was sucked in right away and didn’t want to stop. I ended up also listening to the audio because I had another moment of regret last year too. So many people kept telling me it was a full cast, and this time I didn’t want to miss it. So I read some and listened to some. And the audiobook is also amazing. It too has a full cast and some really great sound effects.
I also liked Pip. She was so honest. She tried being what everyone else wanted her to be, but that just wasn’t her. I was glad she finally found herself. I did feel that she was taking on a bit much since she was still just a teen, but then I realized I sounded like her mother. But then again I did like the way Pip broke but used that to become so strong. She was great. I also liked how Ravi didn’t let her run over him. He was legit a soldier throughout this whole book.
As for the mystery, I thought Jackson did a really great job of keeping the reader guessing. I thought I had it all figured out, but in the end, I got it wrong just like I’m sure a lot of others did too. This book will make you think you know something, but you really have no idea. And those are my favorite type of thrillers. And this one had me hanging on to everything with every page turn. It was intense, but in a real way, another thing I like about Jackson’s writing style. Some YA thriller authors like to “do too much” when letting teens find clues, but Pip and Ravi always find their clues via social media or spying, real things teens do. If that makes any sense at all lol
Holly Jackson made me a fan in the first book, but now this second book has made me a super fan. As a lover of true crime (podcasts and shows) I fell so hard for this series and I can’t wait to see more of it! I can’t wait to see what case Pip and Ravi solve next time!
Overall, I give this
I thought this was great too, especially on audio. I can’t wait until the third book.
