A grouchy mountaineer, a Hollywood starlet
And miles of untamed wilderness…
What could possibly go wrong?

Former Hollywood darling River Lane’s acting career is tanking fast. Determined to start fresh behind the camera, she agrees to film a documentary about the picturesque small town of Moose Springs, Alaska. The assignment should have been easy, but the quirky locals want nothing to do with River. Well, too bad: River’s going to make this film and prove herself, no matter what it takes.
Or what (literal) mountain she has to climb.
Easton Lockett may be a gentle giant, but he knows a thing or two about survival. If he can keep everyone in line, he should be able to get River and her crew up and down Mount Veil in one piece. Turns out that’s a big if. The wildlife’s wilder than usual, the camera crew’s determined to wander off a cliff, and the gorgeous actress is fearless. Falling for River only makes Easton’s job tougher, but there’s only so long he can hold out against her brilliant smile. When bad weather strikes, putting everyone at risk, it’ll take all of Easton’s skill to get them back home safely…and convince River she should stay in his arms for good.

*MY THOUGHTS*

I happened upon this series by chance. I saw so many people talking about the first one and how cute it was, and I had to find out what they hype was all about. And from that first one, I fell for this series hard. I got the second one later on and liked that one too. I was expecting to really like this one because I still LOVE Easton, but unfortunately, as much as I liked him, it didn’t save me from something else.

River Lane is losing her acting career, so she’s trying her hand at making a documentary. One about Moose Springs, Alaska. But the locals don’t like a lot of fuss and refuse to help her. But she’s determined to find something charming about the place. Even if it means climbing a mountain by herself. But even as she tries, she finds out it’s not possible. A mountaineer named Easton is not going to let them go by themselves. This should be easy with all the times he’s done it, but as he feels himself falling for her, he knows things will only get harder.

This series started out so strong for me. I gave the first one 4 stars. And the second one was a solid 3. But this one was more like 2.5. And all because of ONE character…. She just seemed like a brat this entire book. And to say she had no idea what she was doing, she didn’t think twice about telling Easton off. It just didn’t seem realistic. Like how can you do this and not die? And how did Easton just let you do it with no consequences? It was weird and she ruined it for me. I hate to say this, but that one time with the unclipping, I was hoping something really happened so that she’d get the picture and get her life together. But even that didn’t work. She was selfish and had no regard for the others she was climbing with an it annoyed me.

As for Easton, I loved him before this book. But he let River walk all over him and I didn’t like that. She had him out there letting her do whatever she wanted, when I knew that’s not how the old Easton would have reacted. It made me look at him a bit differently. His job was hella important, and a pretty, stubborn girl comes along and he starts making bad judgement calls? Yeah, I didn’t like that.

As for the setting, I enjoyed it SO MUCH. I HATE the cold and I HATE the snow in real life, but seeing it in a book is usually really fun because I never have to endure it for real. (Well, usually. Looking at you Texas SNOVID 2021.) So seeing all the things they did to prepare and all the things they did with the ice and snow on the mountains, I thought it was pretty bad ass. But I can’t lie, I was so glad we only experienced 9 degrees here and not the -34 degrees like they did on the mountain. Because EFF that. I will take my 115 degree summers ANY DAY over that.

The last thing that saved this for me was the visits from the other characters. I liked seeing Zoe and Graham and their dog again, and even Lana was there. It was nice to check in with them and see how things were going. But, it also opened the door for some other relationships, so I’m interested to see if we’ll see more from Moose Springs or not.

This book wasn’t what I wanted it to be. I’m hoping this won’t be the last one because I don’t want it to go out like this. If it is indeed the last one, the series as a whole was an interesting one, and I’m glad I was peer pressured into reading it lol

Overall, I give this
