Revenants #1
Source: Library
In the City of Lights, two star-crossed lovers battle a fate that is destined to tear them apart again and again for eternity.
When Kate Mercier’s parents die in a tragic car accident, she leaves her life–and memories–behind to live with her grandparents in Paris. For Kate, the only way to survive her pain is escaping into the world of books and Parisian art. Until she meets Vincent.
Mysterious, charming, and devastatingly handsome, Vincent threatens to melt the ice around Kate’s guarded heart with just his smile. As she begins to fall in love with Vincent, Kate discovers that he’s a revenant—an undead being whose fate forces him to sacrifice himself over and over again to save the lives of others. Vincent and those like him are bound in a centuries-old war against a group of evil revenants who exist only to murder and betray. Kate soon realizes that if she follows her heart, she may never be safe again.
In this incandescent debut, newcomer Amy Plum has created a powerful paranormal mythology with immortal revenants. The Paris setting comes enchantingly alive as a relentless struggle between good and evil takes place in its streets. Rich with romance, atmosphere, and thrills, Die for Me will leave readers breathlessly awaiting its sequel.
*MY THOUGHTS*
I was practically dying to read this (no pun intended) and I won’t say I was disappointed, but it wasn’t what I expected. The above book blurb was from GoodReads but is not the same one on the book jacket. This is the one that drew me in. Although the book blurb gave me too high hopes, there were many things I still enjoyed about the story. For example, I love Love LOVED the setting. Paris is a beautiful place and perfect for lovers. I also liked the refreshing new type of paranormal being that Plum brought to our world, the Revenant. They are best described by Kate (the main character) as a “kind of undead-guardian-angel type of monster that runs around saving human lives.” Definitely a cool idea. I also liked Vincent’s romantic side (even if we didn’t see it much). Yes I admit, I’m a hopeless romantic. The cover too is indeed gorgeous. I like this one better than the others. Maybe because this one was animated. lol yeah I’m a big kid. Now to the hard part, what I didn’t like. The story to me was so good… until Vincent was gone. Then it got a little bland. I also felt like I was learning about the Revenants and what they do for too much of the story rather than just enjoying it. There wasn’t very much I didn’t like. All I can say now is I enjoyed the book and I look forward to the sequel coming out in May 2012.
Oohh Love your review! I read this last week (or maybe the week before) and I agree with you.
There were also a few moments where I was like "c'mon really?" like when her grandmother wanted her to work things out with Vincent and said she could stay the night.
Aside from some quirky annoying things, I liked it.
Yeah the bit about letting herstay over to "fix things" got under my skin too. I was like umm no way is that believable lol
