No one survived the last battle unscathed. Flint is angry at the world, Jaxon is turning into something I don’t recognize, and Hudson has put up a wall I’m not sure I’ll ever break through.
Now war is coming, and we’re not ready. We’re going to need an army to have any hope of winning. But first, there are questions about my ancestors that need answers. Answers that might just reveal who the real monster is among us.
And that’s saying something in a world filled with bloodthirsty vampires, immortal gargoyles, and an ancient battle between two gods.
There’s no guarantee that anyone will be left standing when the dust settles, but if we want to save this world, I have no choice. I’ll have to embrace every part of me…even the parts I fear the most.

*MY THOUGHTS*

When I got to the third book in this series, I was all set to not read anymore in this series. But here I am at the 4th book and I’m more invested than ever lol Ugh I’m glad the rest of this series comes out this year.

So at the last battle that happened, lives were lost and terrible injuries happened. But now the real war is coming and Cyrus’ army is still not one for the weak. But so many things are popping up as Grace tries to figure out who she is by finding out more about her ancestors. But of course, this is all small compared to the things going on in the background.

Ok, so obviously the best thing about this one was the way it was action packed. There was always something happening. At some points I had to rewind it and re-listen because I couldn’t believe the things that happened. It was too much! But man, it was so good! The journey that to try and get some things before the war starts was so intense. I had to keep reminding myself there was more in the series so they had to be ok. But definitely take that with a grain of salt because……………..

I also loved that their romance and everything was finally REALLY explained. Don’t get me wrong. It still skived me out, but now less so. I’m glad she finally took the time to fully explain it and show them actually really being together. Because the way it was first introduced in the second book? DID NOT LIKE. And I remember spending the whole time reading the third book remembering what was going on. But I won’t lie, it still makes me feel weird overall. But this book was a lot more helpful to learn why things happened the way they did. And I think this happened just in time. Because man, they definitely heated up in this book. Hudson and Grace (and Tracy Wolff I guess) hold nothing back…

And this is now my fave of the series because y’all know how I live for world-building and settings. If they’re really well fleshed out and are really detailed, I can picture myself in the book so much better and I don’t have to make up as much. And with this book, Wolff must have been gotten a better view of the world or something, because the world in this one was so much better. Like when they went to that one place that she thought she wouldn’t be able to get back to, I could picture it clearly. And the skeletons that came? Man, Wolff’s words and my imagination scared the crap out of me lol But I do applaud her on how much better this was than the other books.

My only gripe? It was entirely too long. So many scenes could have been cut shorter. And no I don’t mean cutting out the detail about the world. I mean more like cutting the actual scenes. Because listen, that book was a whole day (and then some) long. And that ending was so drawn out. That’s the reason I couldn’t give this 5 stars. But other people didn’t mind it, so I’m sure there will be more people that loved this rather than those that felt like me. (There IS an epilogue and some other scenes at the end, but it was still too long.)

This book was so much better than I was expecting. Grace grew so much throughout the series and I LOVED seeing her growth. I can’t wait to see what else Wolff has up her sleeve for the rest of this series. I am not super excited for this Hudson/Grace book, but whatever.

Overall, I give this
