Which has more power over readers: a book blogger or a professional critic?
I think bloggers do. Why? The readers could feel they’re more personable and can relate to them more. I’m pretty sure most readers don’t seek out professional reviews, they see a pretty picture on Instagram, a video with a cute quote on Tiktok, or someone in real life holding said book and that’s how they pick it up. To be honest, I don’t think I’ve ever heard someone who wasn’t a librarian or someone involved in publishing actually care about the reviews professionals put out.
What about you? Have you heard of someone reading a professional review instead? Were they a librarian or a publishing professional themself? Let me know in the comments!
I agree as well! I know for authors the professional reviews help them more, which is great. I’m thinking of those Kirkus reviews I see them talk about every now and then. But as a reader I look for other reader/blogger opinions rather than these professionals!
