Everyone at Hundred Oaks High knows that career mentoring day is a joke. So when Maya Henry said she wanted to be a rock star, she never imagined she’d get to shadow *the* Jesse Scott, Nashville’s teen idol.
But spending the day with Jesse is far from a dream come true. He’s as gorgeous as his music, but seeing all that he’s accomplished is just a reminder of everything Maya’s lost: her trust, her boyfriend, their band, and any chance to play the music she craves. Not to mention that Jesse’s pushy and opinionated. He made it on his own, and he thinks Maya’s playing back up to other people’s dreams. Does she have what it takes to follow her heart—and go solo?
*MY THOUGHTS*

Maya Henry put “musician” on her sheet for Career Day not thinking she’d actually get someone worth shadowing, but as it turns out, she gets teen country star Jesse Scott. But spending time with him doesn’t pan out like Maya thought it would. He is the complete opposite of what Maya wants to learn about and doesn’t think he’ll help with her kind of music. Add on to the fact that he’s a jerk, she not making it any better.
“Sometimes it’s so great to stick it to people, you know?”

My favorite part of this was the characters. I loved seeing Sam Henry and Jordan, but Maya and Jesse (pun intended) stole the show. They were both so well thought out and so real. Maya seemed to handle things exactly the way I could in that situation which made the story so much more believable. I also loved their growth. Both of them grew so much in this story. Jesse went from someone who didn’t want to let anyone in to someone who finally started enjoying life and the people in it. Maya went from being close minded to opening her mind (and heart) to many different things and finding that in the end she really liked them.

The main reason this book is my favorite in the series now is because it was full of feels. I think it was the music aspect. As I was reading this, I was making a play list for the book and I would play the song and go back and read the scene to be sure it fit. Doing that made me connect with certain things more and because of that, it made the swoony parts, swoonier, the funny parts funnier, and the parts where they were angry more intense.

As for the romance, Keneally’s swoony scenes started getting a bit more intense in Racing Savannah and they have stayed that way. In Jesse’s Girl it was there. But what I love about her scenes are, they are believable. They don’t feel as if they’re just doing it to do it. I could really feel the love between those two and it was in the right place. They didn’t rush or just do it because they were bored. The place and timing were right which made for the perfect scene.
“But not everybody will use you. Some people are good.”

Hundred Oaks is one of my favorite series. I’d love to see more books set in this area, with gymnasts, bowling, ice skating (*SPOILER* I noticed a little something in this book… Was that a clue for what’s next?) or even diving. (<— Actually I think diving would be pretty cool….) I would definitely read anything else that Kenneally has and fully enjoy it!
I'm glad to see that you loved this one too! It was my first Miranda Kenneally book and I was definitely not disappointed. I really want to check out the rest of the series! I love your playlist. 🙂
