*MY THOUGHTS*

I LOVE Jade Adia so I’m going to read any and every book she has. So imagine my surprise when I found out this was a thing and it came out this year? How had I not heard of this? So naturally I had to read it because if I hadn’t heard of it and I’m a librarian, I know there’s not many others who did. So, I read it as soon as I could.

So if you didn’t know, I’m a DC fanatic. I know that most people feel this way about Marvel, but I’m a Wonder Woman girly. Always have been and always will. This book isn’t a Wonder Woman book, but it IS about the next DC woman who has my heart, Barbara Gordon! (If you didn’t know, when she grows up, she’s a librarian lol) In this one she’s a young adult and she’s already working with Bat-Man and Boy Wonder. She was tired of being on the backburner to them because of two things: She’s a woman and She’s Black. (And y’all say reading isn’t political………. Haven’t we just discussed this?!) So imagine how she felt when someone came to Gotham asking specifically for her.

I’m not usually a fan of fighting books, but this one had my head swiveling like I was watching a tennis match. This was so crazy. And you would think in a superhero novel this was a book about fighting and of course the good vs evil. And this one definitely had that. BUT there was also a demon? lol I’m telling you it was crazy. And just like I thought it was weird, so did she. She basically denied that something was happening until she couldn’t anymore. But she was determined to take care of this case on her own so that they knew she could handle it.

Since this is a superhero book AND a book with a demon, things never stop happening lol It was like every page! And her bestie is nosey and messy af so things were constantly happening there too. It was pretty much non-stop. I thought this was going to be a low action origin story, but she was already kind of established, so things were already happening and it was so much fun.

I do wish there was more with the demon tho. It came up mostly during the end because Barbara didn’t actually believe in them. So when things were happening and she finally did bring it in, it was already the ending. Like there were little happenings but as the reader you don’t exactly know why this is happening, you just know that something is because of the title. It seemed like it was forgotten about and then all just came back in the end. I think I would have preferred if it was more spread out a bit.

In short, this book has all you need. Batman, Gotham City, Boy Wonder, fighting and possessions? lol It was a wild time and I hope y’all pick it up to take this ride yourselves. I promise you’ll like it. Jade Adia is a BOSS.

Overall, I give this
