War between the devas and the demons is imminent, and the Otherworld is on high alert. When intelligence from the human world reveals that the Sleeper is holding a powerful clairvoyant and her sister captive, 14-year-old Aru and her friends launch a search-and-rescue mission. The captives, a pair of twins, turn out to be the newest Pandava sisters, though, according to a prophecy, one sister is not true.
During the celebration of Holi, the heavenly attendants stage a massage PR rebranding campaign to convince everyone that the Pandavas are to be trusted. As much as Aru relishes the attention, she fears that she is destined to bring destruction to her sisters, as the Sleeper has predicted. Aru believes that the only way to prove her reputation is to find the Kalpavriksha, the wish-granting tree that came out of the Ocean of Milk when it was churned. If she can reach it before the Sleeper, perhaps she can turn everything around with one wish.
Careful what you wish for, Aru . . .
*MY THOUGHTS*
I didn’t hesitate to request this one when I saw it on Edelweiss. Anything that has mythology in it, I NEED it. And after the ending of the last book, I definitely knew I needed this one. And of course, I was not wrong.
“Dude, I’m so hyped for war,” said Number Thirty-One.” “Like, so hyped. This place is too peaceful and harmonious. Ugh.“15%
Aru Shah and her fellow Pandavas know that war is coming. But they’re still not sure how they’ll win. Especially with the two new Pandava sisters that have come along and the fact that no one trusts them. So now, the only thing they can do is make sure they make it to the Tree of Wishes before their enemies…
“Pandavas, you are far more than the things you fight with.” “Sure, but also celestial weapons,” emphasized Aru.“21%
Ok, so the ending was the best and the worst part. I was a bit confused of the actual ending, and then my brain exploded during the epilogue. I hate that I’m starting a review with the ending, but since I finished the book about an hour ago, I’ve been thinking about it ever since. It wasn’t something I was prepared for lol My current review on Goodreads is Roshani Chokshi hates us for the endings in this series. So be prepared, if you don’t like cliff hangers, be careful when you read this. The wait for the next book is going to be HELL.
“He told me to write each fear on a piece of paper. Then he turned them into songbirds, to remind me that the things that scare us can also give us joy. We just have to learn how to see them in a different light.“22%
And I also loved that there were more gods and goddesses introduced in this book. I don’t know a lot about Hindu mythology, so I always welcome a way to learn more about them. Also, they were all just REALLY. COOL. Like Garuda….. Super cool and the way Chokshi had him in the story made me want to go and do more research on him.
“She understood what it meant to wake up from a nightmare only to find you were still caught up in a real-life one.“34%
The writing style was superb as usual. I laughed, I got mad, I was sad, everything. But more than anything, I laughed non-stop. Aru is definitely a sassy, awkward teenager and she is everything I wish I was at that age. Almost everything she said made me laugh. So much so, I woke my husband up the other night from laughing out loud. Definitely a book that anyone who wants to laugh will love.
“Are you sure you know what you’re doing?” asked Aiden. “Of course not!” said […] cheerfully.“60%
This was a great addition to the Pandava series. I’ll be heartbroken when the last book comes out next year. I want her to keep writing them. For now I’ll just be happy that at least that means she can’t tease us with anymore cliff hangers.
Overall, I give this
