River Santos is stuck—in her job at the diner, in her dead-end town, in her grief. Her father died in a house fire just a few months ago, her mother has been MIA for nearly a year, and the only people she can count on are the aunt she lives with and her best friend Tawny.
Things feel like they’re turning around when Logan—the hot guy at the diner who’s always ignored her—seems interested. It’s complicated by her ex-boyfriend Noah, who she really needs closure with, and the fact that Tawny doesn’t think either of them is good enough for River… but the tension between River and Logan can’t be denied.
But love takes a backseat when new information surfaces about the fire. After all these months trying to move forward, River is forced to rethink everything… including the idea that maybe it wasn’t an accident after all. But who would commit this deadly act? And why?
River isn’t sure who to trust or who to turn to, but she needs to figure it out, fast. Because someone has more than love on their mind. They want revenge.
*MY THOUGHTS*
After reading her debut last year I knew I needed to get my hands on this book. I was expecting more of the last book with a high school thriller because the cover also had a flower on it, but this was so much more. I really need to start reading the synopsis more because I was so surprised lol
OK so basically this is one of those rare books where I hated every single character except the main character. Usually if there’s that many people that I don’t like, I usually hate everyone in the book. But this time I only liked the MC and her bestie. But then as the story went on….. Well yeah, I’ll leave that there. You come back and tell me what you think about it. But anyway, like I said, I DID like the MC, but she was so naïve. Granted she might have been just upset because she felt alone, but Idk how to say it without spoilers. I’ll just say, THERE WERE SIGNS.
The plot was a slow burn, but once the fire caught?! And I mean that literally and figuratively lmao I do wish the slow burn part wasn’t so long. Or at least there were more signs for the thriller half of this book? It was more focused on the romance, which was I’m sure was to throw people off from trying to guess who did what. But believe me when I tell you, every single event and every single person in this book were ridiculous and I don’t think there is any way anyone can guess everything about everyone lol
Sloan Harlow has a new fan in me. I don’t usually like slow burns, but I was hooked trying to figure out what exactly was going on in this book. And Lordt knows how I felt about her debut last year. This book was definitely a romantic thriller and if you know me, you KNOW that’s everything I love! I hope there’s more from Harlow on the way!
Overall, I give this
