In the irresistibly sexy series from #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout, two free spirits find their lives changed by a one-night stand…

Some things you just believe in, even if you’ve never experienced them. For Stephanie, that list includes love. It’s out there. Somewhere.  Eventually. Meanwhile she’s got her job at the mixed martial arts training center and hot flings with gorgeous, temporary guys like Nick. Then a secret brings them closer, opening Steph’s eyes to a future she never knew she wanted—until tragedy rips it away.

Nick’s self-assured surface shields a past no one needs to know about. His mind-blowing connection with Steph changes all that. As fast as he’s knocking down the walls that have kept him commitment-free, she’s building them up again, determined to keep the hurt—and Nick—out. But he can’t walk away. Not when she’s the only one who’s ever made him wish for forever . . .

TAKE ME AWAY…AFTER DARK!

*”This book is part of the new adult contemporary romance genre! It is more mature than both YA and MG. I have featured it in Take Me Away… After Dark as a way to feature the few Adult and New Adult titles I am beginning to read!”  This book will contain strong language and explicit sexual scenes. Intended for adults 18 and up! *

*MY THOUGHTS*

This book came at the right time. My boyfriend had just lost his grandmother and I needed an escape from my reality. Things got hard because where I could always count on a JLA book to keep me sane, it still took a minute before I fully got into it. But once I did, I fell in love with both Stephanie and Nick.
Stephanie has witnessed love before, but never experienced it. In other words, she knows it’s out there but does her best to withdraw from it as much as she can. Until she can’t anymore. Then there’s Nick, who’s experienced it but it of course didn’t go as planned so he strayed as far from it as he could. But then something (a huge something) tied the two of them together. Something they couldn’t do anything about. And then things start to finally come together… Just so it can fall apart.
I loved that this book was filled with hints of feminism. The main character is a girl who doesn’t mind casual sex, there’s a clear picture of a girl standing up to a disgusting male chauvinist pig, and so many more things that I applaud JLA for. I love that she wasn’t afraid to go there with Stephanie OR Katie’s characters.
As for Stephanie, I liked her character but she was definitely a stubborn someone. So many times I wanted to get mad at her, but I knew I couldn’t because she was going through so much. Which is the only reason I didn’t give this book 5 stars. I knew the entire plot as soon as the book started. I wasn’t completely sure how it would happen, but I knew where it was going. Although it was written in a way where there should have been no surprise, I would have loved a little surprise. There was something at the very end, but it had nothing to do with Stephanie and Nick, but I LOVED it still. Omg can I get another book on those two please?!
Then with Nick, I felt like he was really just there. I didn’t really learn much about him besides how JLA connected him and another character, but that was ok. With the amount of feminism in this book, I wasn’t surprised that the main focus was on Steph. I think there was just so much going on with her character that Nick’s didn’t come out until the end. And that’s when I fully swooned and fell for him. I fell for him just as she did.
Anyways, I am a little disappointed in the ending to this series. I can definitely see where this next book is going, but I’m so upset that it doesn’t look like it’s Katie’s and that it’s the last one. This has been one of my favorite series for so long, and for it to be almost over make me so sad. Hopefully there will be a novella for Katie as there was for Britt and Ollie. That would make me happier than having nothing at all about her. Her character is just too funny and such a great friend for me not to know anymore about her. Maybe the story of how she got her “powers” and the first few “predictions” when she finally noticed it. That would be great.
Although everything was 100% predictable, I’m sure that’s the way she wanted things to be. I think I would’ve loved it more had there been more little nugget surprises, but without them it was still a great story. I can’t wait for the final installment!
Overall, I give this
