*MY THOUGHTS*
Yo this was so good! I missed Sandeen’s writing! I fell in love with The Cursed House, and I just KNEW this was going to be just as good. And sure enough, it was. In fact I think I liked it better. She’s quickly becoming one of those authors who will have me reading their grocery list!
Ok so although this house thing was a lot like her first book, I didn’t mind. It was different enough for me that I didn’t care. I just found it interesting that she wrote about 2 different haunted houses. The plot and the writing style had me hooked. I couldn’t stop reading them. The plot was just as sad as the last book we read by here too. I swear Sandeen can write a ghost that I feel sorry for lol I did NOT know I was about to cry for this ghost either lol
The characters were the things that got on my nerves lol But that’s like in most horror books and movies I read or watch. They never do what I want them to do and they never ever notice what they should notice lol It’s always a hot mess and then some lol But I think that’s the part that I love the most about it. Being able to say what I would do in that situation because I’m safe at home lmao Anyways, the one that got on my nerves for real for real was Joy. Like girl just say you were scared and being still hurt was better than that. She was doing the most the whole time and it was driving me crazy.
The spooky bits were actually that too. *SPOILERS* (Highlight to read!) The neighbor and the picture actually gave me goosebumps. It didn’t help that I have also been watching Paranormal Caught on Camera lmao But I could picture that scene in my eye and I had to put the audio down for a minute lol I also had an issue with the candles? Like what do you mean they kept coming back? That’s a big no lol *END SPOILERS* But I don’t want to say more. I hope this just intrigued you to read it tho!
I enjoyed this a lot tho. I don’t want to add any spoilers, but please note the content warnings before you read. Just like her first, this was an extremely sad, well written, intriguing, haunted house story. There’s so much community in this, I just wish he could have let himself feel it. Now go pick this up! I need to talk to someone else about it.
