For Readers of: ARC, Audio, Contemporary, Mystery, Realistic Fiction, Thrillers, YAPerfect for fans of How to Survive Your Murder and Dead Girls Can’t Tell Secrets, this young adult thriller unspools the truth behind a tragic murder through multiple unreliable narrators who all have secrets to keep.
Here’s what we do know: there was another infamous barn party at the McClain family farm last night, and things went horribly wrong. By the end of the night, there were two dead bodies in the old barn: seventeen-year-old Sadie Cooper and her killer, Mason Vreeland. The murder was heartbreakingly witnessed by Sadie’s twin sister, Jayne, and Sadie died in her arms. Mason was killed by Sadie’s boyfriend, Ben, in an attempt to save Sadie.
Aside from figuring out Mason’s motive, it should be an open and shut case.
But it’s not.
The story unfolds just after the murders, and Jayne, Ben, and Sadie’s best friend, Liz, are telling the cops what transpired at the party and the events leading up to it. But little details don’t match. And those little details start to add up to big discrepancies. But who’s lying, and why?
The shocking truth is revealed in the third act, when the POV shifts to victim Sadie herself, in the days leading up to the party. Witness exactly what happened—and see if you can piece it all together. Because poor Sadie totally missed what was right in front of her.
*MY THOUGHTS*
Yo this was crazy. I loved the way the story was told. Some things I hated, but for the most part, this was a fun story. I just want to know if there’s going to be a sequel because wtf was that? So y’all just be prepared when IT happens.
OK so the main thing about this was the characters. Literally everyone in this book is unhinged and toxic. And I mean every single person. Every time I thought it was one person because of how bad they were, the next person was also bad. I did end up guessing it tho, but only because I waited and watched how they acted. And Lordt, if you get it, you did good because this was a hot mess lol
The ending was the worst I had no idea this was going to end the way it did. I’m not sure I would have read it if I did lol There’s nothing explained and we have no idea what happened after. I just read this whole entire book, I deserve to know what happened after LOL I know this is a me thing, but whatever. I just don’t care for these types of endings because I know what I come up with won’t be as good as what you’d come up with so it’s like a wasted opportunity lol And I still had questions. Like who was the texter? Ugh I need clarification lol
And this book was so stinking good. I feel like a large part of that also has to do with the pacing and writing style. Or basically like the way the story was told. It was kind of backward? Like from the police talks to the actual murder. But that was through just like memories and recounting. They were sitting in police interviews the whole time. It’ was a lot. It’s hard to explain lol Just know that it worked for this book.
This was a good time. I just wish the ending would have been different. But if you’re ok with a weird ending, the writing style and the unhinged ass characters should lift you up. I need to know what y’all think too so we can compare thoughts about the end lol
Overall, I give this
