Two for Tuesday: Suit On, Logic Off!

These themes will vary! It could be based off of some book mail I just received, pop culture, something personal to me, a headline from the news, a trend I noticed when I was buying books for my library system, etc. I hope you stick around to see all the themes and book recs I come up with!

Today’s Theme: Suit On, Logic Off

If you’re like me and have been watching all the videos of #MascotReveals, just know that this is the reason I chose this topic. One thing I’ve learned from those videos and these books is the seriousness of keeping the secret of who is in that suit. People really look at it as a like REAL character, and I love that. I’ve cried at some of them and I’ve cheered on some of them as well. I don’t know them and they can’t hear me lol But Idk it just seems like the cutest, pure thing. Unfortunately, in this particular book tho, it wasn’t actually cute. This is a Scream style horror book lol The main character is the mascot, but someone messes with the suit and during a performance she reveals who she is. The entire town is mad af. As they try to figure out who sabotaged the suit, a killer goes on a rampage and starts killing people who made their suspect list. It’s a crazy story and as a horror lover, I loved it. Just know this isn’t a feel good story like the graduation ones! [This is a YA book and is out now!]

On the other side of this, is Evening the Score! This one is a romance book so its kind of like the feel good stories of the graduations. In this one, Olivia is holding a grudge against the evil (yes evil) retired NHL player, Erik Parker who ended her father’s career early. She’s been holding it so long that she also now hates his son, the NHL prodigy who just signed with her home team. So much so that she becomes the team’s mascot to learn all the gossip and secrets. I’m only 26% in and it’s already adorable! Her mascot orientation was HILARIOUS! I can’t wait to see what else they get up to in this book! (Also, I didn’t know this had Indigenous rep too!!!! I really need to start reading the synopsis or something lol) [This is an Adult book and is out on 5/26]

Well, there you go! Here I’m just going to talk about why I grouped these two books together. I hope you enjoyed a look at this small part of the books. For a full synopsis of the book or to add it to your TBR, click the picture and it will take you to their Storygraph. The link on the caption will take you to it’s Goodreads.

100% Spirit, 0% Identity!

This is probably the weirdest round-up I’ve ever done LOL But I love it so much! Belle of the Ball is a graphic novel and I think it only kind of counts because she tells the girls she likes who she is at the very beginning of the book lol Then Chicken Girl, Mochi, and Hot Dog Girl also only kind of count because they’re like mascots for food places lol Not necessarily for a team. But I liked them all a lot so I wanted to highlight all of them. Also, please tell me if you’ve ever been the mascot. I need to know these things LOL

What about you? Do you watch those videos of the mascots graduating? Have you read any books with mascots as characters? Let me know in the comments!
