Two for Tuesday: Meet Someone New!

These themes will vary! It could be based off of some book mail I just received, pop culture, something personal to me, a headline from the news, a trend I noticed when I was buying books for my library system, etc. I hope you stick around to see all the themes and book recs I come up with!

Today’s Theme: Meet Someone New!

This week’s theme is all about Women’s History Month! Take the time to pick up a memoir or biography (or auto-biography) and learn about someone new. Here’s some new ones I just picked up for our library! In this one we meet Ketanji Brown Jackson who dreamt of becoming a Supreme Court Justice since she was in high school. Later in life she will achieve that dream in 2022 by becoming the first Black woman to ever be appointed to the US Supreme Court. This memoir tells about her life and how she’s so real and humble. A Supreme Court judge that once had imposter syndrome? Crazy! I can’t wait for the younger readers to get this one in their hands! [This memoir is the young readers edition and is out now!]

In this one you’ll get to know one of the best women’s basketball players of our time! You’ll see what she’s known for as a basketball icon and then what happens when she goes to Moscow to play in the Russian league. She gives an amazing account of her life leading up to being the basketball icon that she is and what happened to her while she was serving a sentence in Russian territory. This book covers all the things she overcame and all the ways she never let anything stop her. This one tells the incredible and harsh world of Brittney Griner. [This memoir is the young readers edition and is out now!]

**As a reminder, I used the young readers edition because I am a librarian who buys books for the youth. I didn’t make an extra slide, but I did add some other memoirs, bios, and auto-bios from and about women on my Bookshop list that you can peruse. They are also Young Reader editions that you can give to your littles. I hope you can find someone new to meet there!**

Well, there you go! Here I’m just going to talk about why I grouped these two books together. I hope you enjoyed a look at this small part of the books. For a full synopsis of the book or to add it to your TBR, click the picture and it will take you to their Storygraph. The link on the caption will take you to it’s Goodreads.

So what do you think? Will you pick up one of these to meet someone new? Let me know in the comments!
